"My classmates were teasing me that I don't have a mommy but I have a mommy! Daddy said she is abroad and she's just busy with her work that's why she can't come home" -Camila
ZANDER's POV"Do you want to go out this afternoon, sweetheart? Daddy will go home early so that we can go wherever you want" She looked at me like she didn't hear what I've said to her. She was staring at me, waiting for me to answer her question. I know she's a smart girl and not easy to give up until she gets the answer she desires.
"Is mom doesn't love us anymore that's why she never comes home?" I opened my mouth to say something just to close it again when I realized that I haven't had any idea how to answer her question. Her mother abandoned us but I couldn't hurt my daughter by telling her that.
Since she started asking for her mom, I told her that her mom was busy abroad and couldn't see us. She seemed to understand that when she was younger but now that she's getting older, there were a lot of questions on her mind and now, she seemed to be longing for her mother's presence and love and it hurt me just by seeing her like this knowing that it seemed to be impossible for her to experience that because she left us.
I gritted my teeth as the familiar pain and anger began rising inside my heart. It's been 6 years but I still couldn't forget the pain of her leaving us like that. Because of my anger of her and my love for my daughter, I did my best to complete my internship and then took the board exam. All my hard work were paid off when I passed the exam with flying colors. I topped it.
That was the key to my success because after I passed the board exam, almost all the big companies asked me to work with them. Instead of looking for a job, jobs were the one who chased after me. I accepted the offer of one of the best architectural firms in the country and the pay was good enough for me and my daughter to live comfortably.
But I didn't stop from that. Two years after I started working there, I decided to start my own small architectural firm with my best friend King who was also an architect like me. The first year was kinda hard for us being a beginner in the business field but we managed to succeed.
Being the top 1 in our board exam helped me a lot to acquire many investors not to mention my excellent records in my internship and to my previous job. It was already 2 years after that and I still couldn't believe how my life changed these past few years. All my hard works paid off.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard my daughter called for me again, waiting for my answer impatiently. I heaved a sigh.
"Sweetheart, your mom.....is kinda busy" I said as I averted my eyes from her face. I couldn't bear to look at her face while telling her lies.
"But she will eventually come home to us right daddy?" She asked expectantly and I groaned inwardly with frustration.
"Yes baby. Why don't you wash your face and brush your teeth so that we can have breakfast together? I need to go to the office and then I will come home early so that we can go out. Sounds good?" She nodded but she still looked sad and obviously thinking about her mom.
"Do you want me to call Vanessa and tell her to come with us?" I asked her. She stood up and she looked mad. She doesn't really like Vanessa.
"No! I hate her! I don't want to see her!" She said and stomped her foot on the floor.
"Okay sweetheart. I won't call her. C'mon, go wash your face so that we can eat breakfast now. Daddy is already hungry" I said. She obliged and went to the bathroom while I waited for her. My heart was feeling heavy as I remembered the only girl I ever truly loved but she left me. I gritted my teeth in anger.
