INTRODUCTION.

Staring at herself in her vanity, Luana collected her hair and pulled it back into a high neat curly ponytail, leaving a few strands of her bangs out to frame her face. She dabbed just a little bit of eyeshadow over her eyelids, casting a gradient gold-to-brown from her inner to outer eye. Once she was satisfied, she set aside her brush and put up the things she was finished using.

Her fingers ran across her neck as she fastened her faux double necklace. After three failed attempts she placed the amulet against her chest, struggling to clamp it shut. Once she had managed, she held a tube of lipgloss, applying the sheen in one thin layer before she lifted to her feet; grabbing the rest of her belongings.

Luana was growing anxious, as the minutes which she tried to ignore began to gather momentum. First, she checked her bag, making sure that all the listed items she would need were all accounted for. They were.

She zipped her bag and made her way down stairs to the kitchen, hearing the very relaxing sounds of a frying egg. Her stomach growled, earning a grin from her father.

"You hungry kiddo?" He inquired.

She forced herself to hold in a sigh of annoyance, but couldn't resist rolling her eyes. She was an only child, and that caused him to see her forever as his little girl. She didn't hate it; she just wished he would stop seeing her as a kid. At seventeen, she was practically an adult now, and she made sure to tell him anytime it seemed he had forgotten.

"Dad..." She started before he rushed to shut her down, "Yeah, I've heard it all before. Just come get some breakfast, it's almost time for you to get going," He said, his morning already dampened by his daughters urge to remind him of all the time that had gone by. He was trying to hold on to the past, but everyday he was unfortunately deprived by her pesky reminders.

She took her seat at the end of the table, looking uncomfortable as her dad plated her food. She could feel that he was upset with her but she kept her mouth shut, in fear of saying something else that would make him upset.

"Have a good day at school. Drive safe, and don't forget your seatbelt. I'm going to eat in my room," he said sounding exhausted, though a smile lingered on his aged face.

Luana could already hear his labored breathing; something she would never be use to. He shuffled up the stairs though his doctor recommended that he switched rooms many times in the past to avoid the exhaustion, he refused to change his life. He refused to let the disease deteriorate his aspirations and accomplishments. He tried his hardest to let his daughter see him as he had always been - up, moving and in good spirits, but nothing was able to suspend them in a time warp of better days. Some good would come, but worse days were in the pursuit against them.
