"Good morning class" Ms. Otto smiled briefly glancing towards the door. "We have a new student"
It was 3rd grade when I met this monstrosity.
A raven hair girl with mocha skin walked in. She a denim jacket on with a light pink frilly dress. Her curls were restrained into a bun but some managed to get out. She looked around with confidence.
"This is Ava. there's one thing special about her. Can anyone guess it?"
"Is she super smart?!" I yelled.
"Nope."
"Is she blind?" My friend next to me asked.
"No."
A couple more guesses came through before she told us. "She's mute, as in she can't speak."
"So she can't hear us?" My other friend asked.
"She can do everything you all can do execpt speak."
We all looked at her. She fiddled with her buttons. "Well crap, she was pretty too." My friend whispered.
She rolled her eyes at us as though she heard his comment. "Ava I want you to sit with TJ over there."
The teacher didn't even point. Ava glared right at me then looked at the teacher reluctantly. She doesn't like me already.
She walked over and I got a better look at her. Her nose had freckles and her eyes were light brown. She had long eye lashes and her hair wasn't as curly as I thought. She still is very pretty. I wouldn't date her though. I'm already dating someone.
"Thats good I wouldn't date you either"
I turned and Ava was giving me a side glance. She looked away in the form of rolling her eyes." I thought you couldn't speak... Did you lie?" I whispered.
"No, I'm a telepath." She looked back
You are annoying. What the hell does a telepath even mean?
"I know you are but what am I?" She rolled her eyes. "And I don't know my dad told me."
My friends and I confronted her at the swing set. We glared at her as she went up and down. She followed us with our eyes. She's reading our minds.
"Yup." She said glaring at me. She shifted her eyes to the other guys.
"Ava?"
She turned her head and smiled. They looked at her with expectation. She folded her arms. She started using her hands to make symbols. At this point more people surrounded. Ava shifted her eyes back to me.
"They are ignoring me. They don't think I'm really in their mind."
"Neither do I. You are annoying, get out of my head! Have you ever heard of personal space, freak!" I said out loud while stomping away. For the rest of recess people glared at Ava, they scattered and kept their distance.
As recess finished, Ava rushed into the building. I saw her in the office talking to the secretary. Crying a lot.... as her mom came to pick her up she looked at me by accident. Her eyes shifted and she hid her face. She started sniffling and whimpering.
She wasn't invading my thoughts. She wasn't even looking at me. I felt like a complete asshole that day.
I widened my eyes. I should apologize. I did an impulse move and confronted her. "We can be friends, but if I want privacy you have to give it to me. " She nodded wiping her eyes. After that day we hung out all the time. Though people kept their distance, they eventually came around. This is where we became best friends. She became my wing woman. I think I'd make the wrong decisions if it weren't for her.
Let's skip to the 8th grade.
Ava and I sat next to each other in 2 classes. She was much smarter than my dumb ass self, so she helped me cheat on things. We'd usually get caught in class when we talked in my head. But to other people it looked like we were "gazing into each other's eyes."
It was frustrating but then again. She can't tell me the answers with her lips.
