Surgery Prep

So I had an appointment on January 4th 2017 and they told me that surgery is a go.

I didn't want to do it during school but there weren't many dates to choose from so I'm scheduled for July 27th. This isn't during school but I'll probably miss the first month or so for recovery.

They said that I'll have a couple more appointments between now and then, including a pre op about two weeks prior. They'll take X-rays of my spine before and after surgery, and take my height and weight. They'll also have to do plenty of tests to make sure I'm healthy enough for surgery; I'll probably have blood taken too.

I've found out that I also have a heart murmur (a fancy way of saying that a valve in my heart leaks a bit) which is fairly harmless but worth checking out before surgery, just to be sure it's safe.

So that means I have to go see a cardiologist soon, on top of back doctors. I also just got retainers back on so I have to see orthodontists as well. Plus I have terrible vision and need to see an eye doctor soon to update my prescription.
So. Many. Doctor's. Appointments.

So that's basically where I am right now. I've done my research, decided on surgery, and I've been given a date. And now, we wait. Until July.

As for school, I got lucky. In lots of cases if you miss a few weeks for a medical reason, they try to hold you back for being gone too long. Or you have to make up every assignment.

For me, they're going to treat it like I'm a transfer student who's new to the school. This means I won't have to make up each assignment and can just jump in when I'm back. Of course I still need to learn the lessons I miss so that I understand for the final, but at least I won't be graded on each paper.

In the meantime I'm trying to work out a bit more; it helps with the pain a little bit. But I can't overdo it or it just gets worse. I've been doing lots of stretches and beginner's yoga, so that's good I suppose.

That's basically it. Until next time!
