SIX: Bianca's Mood Swings

The girls in the hall diminished. Most of them had returned to their rooms, while the ones in uniform headed outside. Nobody was looking at Bianca anymore, the whispers had died. Luke silently watched each table get empty.

Bianca finished her salad and set her plate aside, finishing her mango juice, she poked Luke on his left arm. The hardness of his arm shocked Bianca, she pulled her finger as Luke turned to her.

"Ow, what's wrong with your arms? They're as hard as rocks!" Bianca said, blowing her poor finger.

"Self defence. Badminton. Tennis. Sports you know," Luke answered, stopping himself from laughing. He didn't see that coming.

"Are you laughing at me?!" the old Bianca had returned.

"I just didn't expect you to poke me. Done?" Luke laughed.

"Yeah," she answered, standing up.

Luke followed Bianca out of the dinner hall to the academy.

"So, where's your schedule?" Bianca asked, looking up. Bianca barely reached Luke's shoulders.

"Oh yeah. Just a sec," Luke answered, opening his backpack.

Luke took out the paper the headmistress had given him. Bianca took it and scanned it carefully. The two stopped at the academy's steps.

"We're classmates in almost all subjects except.... PhysEd," Bianca returned the paper.

Luke took the paper with a question mark on his face.

"...I'm not fit enough to take a PhysEd class this year." Bianca shrugged, walking up the steps.

"Oh..why?"

Bianca ignored the question. She walked up the wide carpetted stairs leading to their classroom at the second floor. Luke followed behind quietly, dismissing the question. He didn't understand Bianca's moodswings. He rubbed the spot on his shoulder that Bianca poked. It didn't hurt, but he could still feel Bianca's frail finger on it.

Luke stopped at the doorway, the classroom reminded him of their library back at their mansion. Twenty desks were in the room, excluding the teacher's desk. Most of those chairs were empty.

"Are you getting in or what? I'm not going to wait for you," Bianca said, walking inside their room.

"Where's everyone?" Luke asked, looking at the four girls seated far from each other.

"It's algebra. Everyone else in 8th grade is taking pre-algebra," Bianca replied smugly.

Bianca sat on the first row next to the window. Luke sat beside her.

"Would you do me a favor and sit somewhere else? I prefer to sit alone," Bianca said, annoyed.

"It's the nearest chair. I don't want to sit at the back...." Luke reminded himself that he had to keep Bianca close. Afterall, school wasn't the reason he was there...in a skirt. He was there for Bianca. For the deal. For his early retirement.

Remembering his deal with his dad made him smile.

A girl with short black hair and thick make-up dropped her bag next to Luke's chair. Luke turned his head to the girl.

"Heeeey. I've never seen you before. You must be new." the girl smiled widely, stretching her hand for a handshake.

"Yeah... I'm Lucy," Luke replied, shaking the girl's hand.

"Natasha. If you need any help getting friends here, I'm your girl. I can totally help you be popular."

"Uh no thanks. I prefer being alone," Luke replied, focusing his eyes on the board. He didn't like girls who wore such thick make-up. Besides, the less people who knew him, the better.

"Okay then. Suit yourself," Natasha pouted.

"Oooh. Miss Davenport, I didn't see you there. That's weird 'cause you're the first one I usually see. I guess Lucy's prettier than you." Natasha laughed.

Bianca glued her eyes on her notebook. She was used to Natasha's annoying remarks.

A young blonde teacher with black-rimmed glasses entered the room. She dropped her books on the desk gently. Upon looking up, she saw Luke.

"Oh, we have a new face in the class. Would you like to stand up and introduce yourself please, miss...?" the teacher asked with a quiet voice.

Luke sighed and stood up.

"Carter. Lucy Carter." Luke answered, facing his teachers.

"Say hi to your classmates Lucy, not me." the teacher smiled.

Luke faced his classmates but avoided their eyes.

"Hello everyone. I'm Luke--- Lucy Carter... I mean, you may call me Luke if you're too lazy to say my name...." Luke laughed sheepishly at his mistake. Lucy! Lucy! Lucy! You are supposed to be Lucy!

There was no reaction. The girls were too serious to laugh or smile at Luke's lame attempt to joke.

"I'm Amanda Wilkinson, your algebra teacher. Do you prefer being called Luke or Lucy?" the teacher asked.

"Uh, that was a joke... everyone calls me Lucy," Luke laughed weakly. He didn't want people calling him Luke. He just might slip to his real voice and mess everything up, not that he was doing much voice acting at the moment.

Wilkinson started the lesson by copying some definitions from the books. Everyone took their books out.

His dad was right, he already knew the lesson. After all, his tutors taught him everything including highschool curriculum.

The class ended. Bianca was first to leave the classroom, Luke ran after her.

"Hey! Wait up!"

Natasha's mouth dropped.

"No way. That new comer and Davenport are friends?!"
