(Sorry guys, I feel like this chapter took me a bit longer than normal to write... hopefully after this chapter ill be able to get on a routine update or even make myself an update schedule so i can stay on track... anyway, ill try to be more frequent in updates... this chapter may also be a few hundred words shorter than usual.)
This repeated a few times, until I decided since his stall was clean, I got comfy and laid down with him. Max was pretty weird... He was sleeping lying down instead of standing up. But I didn't mind... As long as he didn't mind being a pillow, of course.
I looked up at the sky as a laid down on Max's stomach. It was still dark, but the sun was starting to just barely come up... And when I started with Max, the sun was just starting to go down.
I closed my eyes for what seemed like minutes when Jean woke me up.
"I thought you were going to shoot it?" He asked. He actually sounded kind of mad.
After I yawned and Max started to wake up, I answered.
"His name is Max, and he's the horse I want. I'll take care of him, feed him, water him, and I plan to fix up the stall." I said and stood up, brushing hay and alfalfa from my coat.
"I thought I told you..." Jean started, but was interrupted when Samson came jogging through the stables.
"Mercy! Thank God I found you! It's almost time for your physical!" He yelled and bent over trying to catch his breath.
"We'll handle this later." Jean said and waved me off to go with Samson.
Samson led me through the buildings and tents until we came to a fairly remote area of the NA.
"This is where your going to be physically tested... Like weapons wise. Since your eye... It's obvious you can't use guns anymore." He said and pointed to a fenced area, with some of it looking like a field, some like a jungle, and some like a desert.
"That's where they'll test you mentally." He said and pointed to a decent sized log house, probably one room.
"And that's where we're going to evaluate your injuries, and give you a little 'boost.'" He pointed to another log house, this one a little bigger than the one before it.
Inside was just like the infirmary... Extremely clean and totally sterile. We even wiped our feet on a rug by the door. Clean and tidy is okay, but this level of clean bothers me. Like, where's all the dirt? Do people even live here?
"Just go sit over there, I'll be back in a moment." Samson said and gestured to a leather chair, that looked like it was never even sat in. But nevertheless, I sat.
He disappeared behind a huge cabinet/storage area, but soon reappeared with a big ass shot full of a pure white liquid.
"Oh no. There is no way in hell I'm gonna let you stab me with that." I shook my head.
"Do you want to heal up or not?" Samson said, holding the shot up to eye level and inspecting it.
I sat stubbornly for a minute, then I nodded and took off my coat and rolled up my sleeve.
"Um, it's not in the shoulder." He said.
I looked at him for a minute, then blurted "you're not getting that thing anywhere near my ass!"
Samson laughed, then corrected me. "No, it doesn't go in your... It doesn't go there, either. It goes just above your collarbone... So if you don't mind, could you pull down the neck of your shirt just a bit?"
I nodded and did as he asked. The shot part didn't hurt, but the injecting part did. I writhed and squirmed a bit before he had to put his hand on my shoulder to calm me down. Oddly, seconds after he took out the needle and tossed it away, I felt totally energized. My eye didn't have that thumping, dull pain like it normally did, either. In fact, it tingled. Actually, I tingled... everywhere. I felt like i could do backflips and cartwheels and take on a horde of raiders all over again.
"How do you feel?" Samson asked as he came back with a clipboard.
"Sonic..." I said, nearly bouncing in my seat.
Samson nodded and scribbled something down on his clipboard, before peeking above his glasses at me. "I'm sorry, it will heal your wounds, and it'll only leave a few light scars... even enable you to open both eyes... but you still won't be able to see out of your bad eye, probably never again."
I nodded. "That's okay... it was my fault for being reckless anyway..." I paused for a moment, then asked "So, when am i gonna take that test?"
"Well, since you're already jumping up and ready to go, first, they'll test you mentally. I'm assuming you can walk there unchaperoned?"
"It's the other log house, right?"
"Yes. Well then, you go ahead. I'll be at your second test, in the arena. Remember to be respectful and do as you're asked." Samson said as he looked up, realizing i was already halfway out the door.
