wooded wonderland

burning snowflakes..

it was all she could do to keep running, keep breathing, keep pushing on as the stinging cold was creeping into her lungs an beginning the slow burn down her throat to corrupt her lungs an destroy the perfect rhythm she had begun. It was the first time she had allowed herself to go running since the incident a few weeks prior; just a small mishap but it was enough for a loner of twenty three, five foot nothing and weighing in an just as little to become a tad on edge. Her long thick wavy curls pulled back in a simple pony tail to avoid her eyes as she jogged through the foggy early morning woods. The snow had come late in the night leaving a few inches of fresh white powder to jog through. Her feet being softened to the once heavier blow into the dirt an gravel as she methodically climbed her way  into the pit of her thick wooded wonderland. The heavy dense of trees and fresh scent of pine an green growth was without a doubt her heaven, her home, it was Aria Jean's everything.

With her folks living across the state happily semi retired running a small family friendly coffee shop where local artwork is displayed on the walls an dogs are welcome inside to sit with their humans an enjoy a fresh bowl of water or a homemade dog biscuit, recipe courtesy of her mother's genius skills and her father's creative tendencies, they were able to make a long time dream finally a reality. One of two children, Aria's younger but much taller brother was attending four years at college only about an hour south of her in a small town just inland of the shoreline. He was also an everything in Aria's life, though her younger her brother Dalton was one of the bestest of her friends, friends being all too few as of late.

Rounding out her early morning do to lack of sleep an smokes, she walked back down the small white path smelling of more snow to come and the heavy panting of her two dogs leading the way, with her back porch insight an only a few trees left to pass she paused the music playing on her phone an unplugged her headphones, forcing her anxiety to silence as she whiled her racing mind to merely focus on her mutts while she ran, from fear, from reality, from life in general i guess. Life was hard when you lived alone, but she preferred it that way, she had always been a loner, it was just better that way. Making only a few friends here an there through her school years an at that only having even fewer close friends. She could count on her hand how many friends she had currently an fewer than that how many she'd invite within her bubble.

As the dogs waited patiently at the door for her to open it an allow them to fill with hydration, she glanced back toward the high wall of trees an a climbing ridge line of a mountain at her small cabin home's back. It was peaceful to be tucked in so close to the trees an yet just as haunting when things you didn't know, go bump in the night. Thank goodness for big dogs she smiled an shook her head, knowing she was over thinking again, something Aria did all too well, an all too often. As the dogs trotted inside she allowed one last glance back as the door closed an once again she swore she saw something back on the trail walking away, her heart jumped an she slammed the door shut locking it quickly with wide eyes an a racing heart. She hated how it took her nearly forty five minutes to calm such a pathetic organ an within five its back to jumping at shadows an ghost's she worked so hard to ignore.

A shaking head an a dismissal of her zipup black hoodie on the back of the couch, she walked toward the kitchen to retrieve her own hydration. As she leaned back against the counter, ignoring the news lady talk of more bad news around the world an then local sports team winning, she thought of the image of the creature? a person?! no that's too creepy it must have been an animal of some kind, like last time maybe? no maybe a bear this time or a cougar just following us down a trail. Aria shook her head again an pulled the hair tie out allowing the wild mess to fall around her, it smelt of flowers an sweet things from the shampoo she used the other night. She sighed glancing at the clock an hearing the news man now speak of weather an more snow to come. Indeed it was time to get ready for work.

With her pups happily laying in the hallway an half in the bathroom with her she readied her hair an makeup to a decently satisfying appearance. Growing up a total tomboy she had to laugh at herself now as she excitedly applys her eye makeup an curls bits of her hair, transforming into quite the makeup lover, though don't get this girl wrong Aria still loved discovering bugs an getting dirty with the boys(though not in that way) Laughing this time out loud to the beep* of an incoming text from her brother speaking of a girl he met in class, she felt a bit of a sting of sadness. It had been a long while since she had felt such a giddiness to the appearance of a new girl in her life an after the near full acceptance of her not just immediate family, but some extended also, she new the next one could be 'the one' the only problem was, Aria was tired of looking an didn't wish to put such an effort into another lost cause or waste of energy.

Pulling on her boots she grabbing her medical bag along with car keys, jacket an mug of coffee to go she petted her pups goodbye an headed out for the day. With her black on black 09 chevy warming up to a lovely temperature that had her smiling as the snow began again, she set her bag an jacket on the passenger seat an sipped her coffee as she back out of the drive onto the small road near the path by the tree where  they had gone jogging early that morning. A typical work morning of 8am-5pm at a local sports gym where she played EMT medic for the players of ninja fighting to the extreme, Aria was interning with the long time doc there, retired physician he was once himself a fighter, boxer, wrestler in his younger days then do to personal trails.. turned doctor for the very people he once trained with. Aria found it inspiring an though she goes to the gym for her own fitness reasons, she enjoys the assistance of helping others more.

As she pulled out onto the long stretch of icy white road, she remembered the first time she found herself helping an athlete in-trouble, it was a boy about her age who had been in the ring with a friend an got his nose punched in hard, it had broke without a doubt the way it was contorted to the side of his face, an all the blood dripping down his chest, he was holding his face with his eyes filling with tears an his friend yelling, Aria had been sitting on a mat stretching waiting for a friend to play spare with when she saw him in pain an desperate, she just rushed over without a thought an pulled her shirt off, in just shorts an her sports bra she held the simple shirt to his face an had him stand still inhale an exhale slowly. The blood dripped on her arms as she had one hand on the shirt gently pressed to his face the other on his neck keeping him calm an still.

Aria sipped her coffee, the heat her truck was pumping out an the twinkling spark of the sun on the bright white early morning snow, casted a strange golden to light blue sheen across everything that had her feeling weird in the pit of her stomach as the music was low an calm, she inhaled herself smelling the fresh coffee steaming below her in hand. Her heart beat a little fast but manageable, she blinked behind her aviators keeping the intense shine away from her golden, green eyes. If something was to happen, it was today she felt it, felt something coming. With the high mountainous treeline in the distance, encircling the small fishing town she loved, she looked to the bay where the boats calmly drifted.

The girl thought more on her memories as a fighters medic she dismissed the odd sensation in her stomach an continued the casual drive to work, the gym, the stadium where titans were created an broken an then forged again an again in the fire of the fight. It was a magnificent thing to witness, it was terrifying an deadly yes, but so aw inspiring an beautiful. When a young fighter learns that new technique an masters it just in time to take down his elder in teaching, Aria found herself smiling as she pulled in around back of the gym. It was still a bit early an only a few gym junkies were already there stretching an warming up, her mentor an boss was inside already, his own truck was parked beside her. With a sigh an last thought on the things she enjoyed in this job, Aria climbed out and headed inside. She didn't notice the unknown vehicle parked behind her, didn't think to question maybe there would be a contender today awaiting the assistance of gentle hands an a kind heart.

.. just listened to music an let it flow. Hope you like.
