BANG! I heard the door finally slam shut behind 'Dad'.
I jumped up and rushed out of the attic into the small toilet in a rush. I had been up since the crack of dawn, prepared to escape the room and get to school with a fresh start.
After brushing my teeth and having a quick shower, I dashed into my tiny bedroom and began searching for some decent clothes to wear.
Nothing much seemed good enough to be dressed in and the outfits that did brought back painful memories.
Sighing, I looked up at the clock and then jump back in shock. Unless it was showing the wrong time, which I doubted, I was late for school again. I grabbed whatever item of clothing that came into sight first and scurried into them.
Closing the buttons on this oversized blouse, I threw my books into my bag, picked up my hardly used phone and slid it into my pocket and then rushed out of the door, dragging my bag with me.
The run to school took around 20 minutes if not longer, making me even later than ever.
As I crept into the building, trying not to pant too loud, I realised that I had yet to find my locker that the school secretary had shown me last week.
Walking through the long deserted corridors seemed like the hardest part of the day.
I sighed with relief after I finally finding my new locker, and quickly typed in the pin that I had scribbled at the back of my class schedule.
Then I slipped the piece of paper into my folder that lay on the floor at my feet and turned back to take out the books I would need for the day.
"What are you doing in my locker?" I heard a voice say in the distance. I frowned, then carried on what I had been doing.
"Hey!" The voice shouted, much closer now. I looked up in surprise and noticed that the corridors were suddenly flooded with people.
However, through the centre of the room, a pathway was made clear and a tall guy wearing a unique gray jacket strode through the space, slowly advancing towards me.
Everyone went silent, anticipating what was going to happen.
I moved back quickly and my back made contact with the locker. He slammed his hand beside my head and I flinched, turning away.
With his head about four inches away from mine, I could feel his scary aura surrounding me.
"I asked you a question" he growled through his bright white teeth, "and I want an answer".
I shook under his presence, feeling overwhelmed and terrified of what he would do to me. I tried to reply, but my tongue got stuck in my throat and no sound escaped my mouth except a small whimper.
“Why were you snooping around in my locker? It’s a simple question.”
He sneered down at me and I trembled at his striking green eyes staring. He placed his other hand on the other side of my head, basically trapping me from moving.
I stared down at my feet trying to fight off the feeling of claustrophobia while at the same time thinking about I would get away from him.
I pushed slightly, then put more force into moving forward; he didn’t bulge. I used my hands this time repeating the action with all the strength I had in my body but all I could feel was his muscular chest locking me in my position.
He let out a deep chuckle that brought shivers to me. I had heard the same type of laugh before- it wasn't a happy laugh at all.
”What are you doing, rag-doll? Think you can get away by doing that? I don’t know who you think you are but no one, and I mean no one gets to touch me like that.”
“Shane!” I heard a voice roar from my left. A boy, supporting a frown, was making his way towards us, through a group of teenager who were still watching us eagerly. ”What you doin’?”
“I’m trying to rectify a problem here” the guy against me-Shane I think was his name- growled in a less aggressive voice. “Back off, Marc!”
I turned slightly and looked up at him. I think Marc saw the pleading in my eyes because he mouthed ‘stay calm’ and I tried to do so.
“You’ve had a rough day bro but she’s supposed to be sharing the locker with you. I heard someone from the administrators say so. They didn’t have any other choice" Marc said in a low voice. “Don’t take your anger out on her bruv, she hasn’t done nothing wrong and you know it.”
“Just shut up!” Shane shouted, punching the locker behind me. I felt myself crumble a little on the inside, at the thought that the newly dented could have been my face. Shane then proceeded to storm down the hall and out of the school.
As I heard the roar of a motorcycle start up, what seemed like the remainder of the school began moving away and rushing towards their next class.
My back was still glued to the lockers and I slowly slid down it until I was crouching on the ground. My hands shook violently as I put my head into my arms and wondered what had just happened.
