I havent seen tate in weeks. Not since he freaked out in my room and left. His words rang in my head cutting through the silence of the house.
"Im a monster Alice. "
He had said.
"You should be glad he's gone." A voice startled me. I whipped around to see violet standing there. She walked and sat next to me on the couch.
"Howd you-?" I asked my eyes wide.
"I uh let myself in." She raised an eyebrow. "Theres alot you don't know. Alot you gotta figure out." She said.
"Like what?" I asked her.
"Like what happened at Westfield High." She said.
"What happened?" I asked her.
"Just know he's not who he says he is." She said. My face scrunched up in confusion.
"Who?" I asked.
"Tate." She said. "Alots happened here. Years ago. " she sighed.
"The basement. The school. Me." She said.
"Im confused." I replied.
"So was i." She bit her lip. " just check for yourself. A great thing about this generation is the power of the internet.." she winked. And when i blinked she was gone..
So, out of curiosity, i googled westfeild high. I thought i might as well start out with my own school....
It was called the Westfield High massacre. A student came into school with guns, his face painted, and shot a bunch of students. I felt bad for them but didnt have any clue what relevance that had to me. Until i read who the student was. Tate Langdon. But that made absolutely no sense. How could he have done this? This was back in 1994... Tates 17. He would be way older then he was now. I was completely confused. As i was reading up on him i noticed he was killed. Shot by the swatt team. Where was he killed? My house. My room. I felt my breath quicken as i continued to read.
Then i checked the history of my house. I knew people died here but i didnt know it was this many. Most died in the basement..
Determined to figure this out i retreated down the basement stairs wanting to find any evidence that could have been left behind.
I looked around the musty and dark basement room. I seemed frozen, too scared to move. I was home alone and thought better of it. As i turned around to go back upstairs i felt something tap my foot. I looked down at a red ball that seemed to roll across the floor. I kicked it back to the other side of the basement. Waited a few agonizing minutes until it rolled back to me again.I bent down and picked it up studying it in my hand. I slowly walked over to where it came from. My heart beating with ever step i took. It was too dark to see but thats when it happened. Someone or something grabbed my ankle causing me to fall hard to the cold ground with a thud. I felt nails or claws or something digging into my skin trying to drag me back with it. I screamed. I screamed so loud it rang in my ears. Tears coming down my face i clawed at the ground. And thats when i heard a familiar voice. Then Tate appeared.
"Leave her alone!" He yelled. "Go away!"
The thing let go of my ankle. I quickly scurried across the floor, sitting against the wall of the basement, trying to catch my breath. Tate walked over to me. I looked up at him with wide eyes.
"Listen Alice.." Tate said softly crouching down in front of me on the floor. "If they ever bother you or scare you again, all you have to do is tell them to go away. And they will. I promise they wont hurt you. Id never let them hurt you."
I opened my mouth to speak but didnt know what to say.
"M-my ankle hurts.." i stuttered.
He put his hand on it, examining it. He frowned and looked up at me.
"Beauregard mustve scratched it. He didnt mean too. He only wanted to play with you.." tate blinked before locking eyes with me. "Please dont be upset with him. Hes just a kid. He doesnt mean any harm. He has Craniodiaphyseal dysplasia you see and some other.... problems."
"Whats going on Tate?" I asked him. "Who are you? What are you?"
"Im Tate." He sadly smiled. "Tate Langdon." He sighed as he crossed his legs and fumbled with his hands. "Im dead.." he slowly said raising an eyebrow.
"Dead..?" I repeated.
He nodded."See my dad left me when i was six. That really screwed me up i guess..." he said trying to find the right words. "My mom was a whore. A big one. Anyone in 1994 i was going to westfeild High. That day i took alot of drugs and i set my moms boyfriend on fire and shot 15 kids at my school before... dying." I felt my face scrunch up in confusion.
"That cant be..." i whispered. " that cant be possible."
"Well it is Alice." He said. "Im a ghost. Theres alot of us in this house. Just like Beauregard. I killed most of them though..."
There was a long pause. I felt affraid. Not of Tate but just in general.
"What about violet?" I asked him. "Is she one too?"
He nodded.
"Yeah she is.." he whispered.
"Did you kill her?" My words came out slowly.
"No she killed herself. I tried to stop her.." he whispered.
"Are you going to kill me?" I asked.
"No. God no alice. Im here to protect you." He said. "But im a monster. I cause damage everywhere i go.. i want you to stay away from me." He whispered.
I sat up and took his hands in mine. "But i dont want to stay away from you.." i sighed.
"Well you have to. Ive caused enough damage to the people i love. I wont let you have the same fate." He said as he stood up and started up the stairs. I watched him. "Ill be here when you need me.." he said as he left. I went up after him..
"Tate?" But hed already disappeared.
So this is the real Tate Langdon...?
