Her Innocuous Ways
*********Faramola was busy running from pillar to post getting everything ready for his twenty fourth evening birthday party. He needed everything to be in place before the arrival of Dara and her friends.
Faramola had never thought of himself as the mawkishly amorous kind of guy, longing for and being with Daramola had taught him otherwise. He couldn't think straight for an hour without thinking of her.
Ever since she said yes to his proposal of being his girl, he found himself getting amused at every mundane thing around him. It was as if the birds, sky, moon, stars, and water brings to his memory love songs he'd heard in the past.
It was barely a week, and all he could think about was how their lives together as husband and wife would be.
Call him petty, but Dara was a combination of beauty and brain. She was fun to be with, and her eyes sparkle
whenever she smiles, her dimples were cute and would cause any sane man to turn his head. He was proud to be her man, however, the success of this evening party would prove that his love for her was more than words can describe.Reaching for his breast pocket, he pulled out his phone to call Sir Breezy who had gone to buy the cakes when he found himself tempted to dial Dara's line. He had spoken to her earlier that day. In fact, his call log revealed he had dialled her number twenty times that day. He was about to hit the dial button when Breezy's call came through.
The conversation with Breezy wasn't a lengthy one. Breezy had called him to tell Daramola about Stephen's church member. He could sense the uneasiness and urgency in Breezy's voice as he advised him on the phone.
Faramola couldn't believe his ears. He had spent his afternoon with Breezy and he hadn't mention anything about Stephen's church member since the time he gave Stephen his car key.
"Guy! What's up nah? Did something go wrong?"
"Just clear her on Famous issue. I know what am talking about." Breezy insisted.
"Okay, I'll call her now. Have you gotten the cakes?"
"Yes, I have gotten them."
Rubbing his hand vigorously on his forehead, he thought of what Sir Breezy told him. He scoffed at Breezy's idea of telling Dara what had transpired between her friend and him.
Reaching the conclusion that he was a one lady man, and had nothing to hide, he dialled Dara's number but discovered her line was busy. Unsure of what to do, he decided to explain everything to her after the party. Its so amazing sharing a birthday with ones girl, he thought to himself as he placed his phone back in his pocket.
**********
It was quarter past noon when Dara arrived at Lara's hostel. She reached the decision to visit Lara in her hostel when she discovered her absence for HED 201 test.
It was so unlike Lara to forget any of her friends birthday.
Placing her hand on the door, she pounded the door with her fist but got no response. What's happening? She didn't know what to make of the fact Lara wasn't at home.
Pangs of guilty engulfed her, she wished she had been a better friend to Lara."Good afternoon Dara", a familiar voice interrupted her thoughts.
" Good afternoon Kate. Have you seen Lara today? " Dara asked one of Lara's neighbors, Kate, who happened to be their course mate.
"No! Guess she's still at the club" Kate said carelessly.
"Cl.. Club? Which club is that? What do you mean by club?" Dara drew the last word out of her mouth in total confusion.
" I am looking for Lara my friend. She's fair, tall, slim...""Lara Dalton!" Kate interrupted before adding,"our course mate."
"Yes!" Dara confirmed.
"Am sorry you have to hear this from me but isn't it strange that of all people to be your friend, you chose a club dancer."
Dara couldn't believe what Kate told her, " Club dancer? If you mean this as a joke, I'll suggest you stop it 'cos it's not funny."
"Have a look at this" Kate said unlocking her phone to play her a low quality video.Dara's doubt flew away when she saw the WhatsApp video of Lara having a really good time with some men at the club.
" Where did you get this? What's the name of the club?" Dara asked impatiently.
"Its Young man's clubhouse, near City gate. I got it from DJ Glossy, he's a friend."
" I know him too. Thank you" Dara said politely as she strolled out of Lara's hostel.
Several thoughts flashed her mind. She couldn't help but wonder if Chacha had seen the video. If she had, she definitely would have mentioned it. Wouldn't she?
Reaching for her phone, she dialled Chacha's line to confirm if her newly discovered distant cousin, DJ Glossy was at her place. She was happy when Chacha's response came out positive.
"Dara, is there a problem?"
"No, have you forgotten today is my birthday? I think I might be needing a DJ." Dara lied.
"I'll go talk to him" Chacha said before ending the call.
"I am on my way to your place."
"See you soonest, bye!" Chacha's voiced echoed over the phone.
"DJ Glossy, here I come!" Dara muttered under her breathe as she adjusted herself on a bike to Chacha's house.
