"Jasmine Mathews, age 14, female, brunette, brown eyes, time of death: about 12:15 am." Harry could hear one of the CSI officers recite the report to Niall from across the room.
They were investigating the crime scene, Niall by the bed, talking to an officer and Harry standing in the doorway leaning against the door frame.
He was looking at a picture of Jasmine.
"Niall?" He said quietly before glancing over at his partner.
Niall heard Harry's call and nodded at the officer then made his way over to the tall lad.
"Do you have anything?"
"No.. not yet. I have this weird feeling, like i've seen her before." Harry frowned, bringing his attention back to the photograph at hand.
"Harry, you say that about every victim. Don't let it get to you, there wasn't anything we could do to save her." He put a comforting hand on Harry's shoulder before continuing, "But what you can do is avenge her, let's get that sick bastard."
Harry nodded his head before taking a deep breath.
"You're right. Now, any leads yet? Who does the blood belong to?"
"Aren't I always?" Niall shoots him a cheeky smile, "The missing girl's name is Elizabeth Becking. We will have her parents in later for questioning."
Harry looked around the room, for some sort of clue. Anything.
He looked for misplacements of any kind but found none at first glance.
After an hour of investigating, the two detectives decided to grab a bite to eat.
They found themselves at a small dinner with the name Billows, each eating a cheese burger.
"And then I told him about that time we caught the blind robber of that bank in- Harry? Are you even listening to me?"
The brunette snapped out of his day dream and looked at Niall guiltily.
"I'm sorry, Ni.. This case is really getting to me."
Niall's stomach fluttered at the nickname.
"We've only been working on it for three hours. What about the case is bothering you?" Niall took a sip of his water.
"I dunno," He turned his gaze to the park across the street, "Do you think we'll get him this time?"
Niall watched his partner closely with concern.
"We will." He said softly before getting out a twenty dollar bill to pay for their meal, before standing up, "C'mon, we have some people to interrogate."
Harry returned his gaze to the blonde and stood up.
They made their way to Harry's car in silence before getting in.
"When was the last time you saw your daughter?" Niall asked the man sitting across from him and Harry. They had gone straight from the diner to the police department, eager to continue the investigation.
The man was the single father of Jasmine Matthews, the deceased girl.
"Yesterday morning, before she left for the bus. Why have you called me here? Where's Jazz?" He asked, looking at the two detectives worriedly.
Harry gave the man a sympathetic frown before saying softly, "We found her body at the West Hills Hotel this morning. She was murdered, we presume by a serial killer we have been investigating for the past two years."
Mr. Matthews' face was blank, without a drop of emotion. Dr. Stevenson, the department's consultant psychologist, had mentioned to Harry before that this reaction to such tragic news was a good sign.
