There's a little light in every darkness

Chapter 4

~Two weeks later~

The sun rose up in the sky, with it was the dark stallion, me, finishing one of the many piles of books left to read before I would have enough knowledge to be with the rest of the class. However I was beginning to feel frustrated since I thought in my mind that I was just not fast enough. If I was just a normal student this wouldn't be a problem but I wasn't normal. Not only for what I was but who I was now. I was going to be mentored by Princess Celestia herself, the same mentor of the now Princess Twilight Sparkle. I felt nervous thinking of how I would be able to measure up to a mare who is not only one of the Elements of harmony but is also the Princess of friendship.

My eyes felt heavy from reading all night. I wasn't sure how Twilight was able to read so quickly but then again, for somepony who's only been around for ten years it's not bad. As I walked around piling up the books so it wouldn't be scattered all over the room, somepony was knocking at my door. Curious as who would be knocking at my door in the morning I walked over and opened it to reveal a familiar mare standing there shyly.

"Hi Solar..."

"Midnight? What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in class right now?"

She shook her head and stepped inside my room, "There's still some time left before I have to go. I just wanted to check up on you and see how you were doing."

I shut the door and moved the books around with my magic up against the wall so they wouldn't disturb. "What do you mean by that Midnight? Are you asking about my progress with the books or is it something else you're asking about?"

"If you want to tell me your reading progress then that's fine but what I was asking was concerning you specifically."

"I'm fine I suppose, there's not much change since we last talked."

She was facing away from me as her forehooves moved along the floor nervously as if hesitant about something. With the next question, her voice was quieter than usual and the emotion in her voice could only be that of sadness. "Solar...do you...did I...did I make you hate me..?"

I was befuddled, "Why would you think you made me hate you?"

"Because ever since the tour I gave you, you've been locked up in here and the few times I've been able to find out of your room like in the library...I'd wave or say 'hi' to you and you would just ignore me."

I frowned and walked beside her, "Midnight I do not hate you nor did you cause me to hate you. If I've ignored you or been locked up it is only because I am trying to obtain all the necessary knowledge and begin classes with you and the others."

Her light lavender eyes looked up, lighting up as she smiled, "So you don't hate me?"

I shook my head and smiled though I felt sad for her. 'She probably has little to no friends to be reacting this way..'

"Midnight, you should probably be heading to class now or you may be late."

She tapped her horn lightly and giggled, "Solar we're unicorns, if it really gets close to me being late I can always just teleport to class."

"I realize that though you can never truly know how or where you'll be teleported yourself to. For example, you may attempt teleporting yourself to your seat in class but end up teleporting yourself to the front of the class."

Midnight thought about it and nodded, "You're right Solar, I still need to work on my accuracy so something like that doesn't happen. I guess I'll go to class now, will you be alright being alone?"

I looked at her oddly, "um Midnight, I've been alone for most of my life. I'm pretty sure I can handle being alone now."

Midnight blushed, "Oh...right, sorry."

I chuckled, this mare was a bit silly but sweet.  Once I finished with all this studying and studied with the rest of the class,  I would at least somepony in the class...one who could even possibly be my friend with time.  Speaking of time,  I have to keep studying. I picked up a book and continued my studies,  excited for what my future awaits. 

(A/N:Yes I understand it's a pretty shirt chapter, especially for my break from writing but I'll be working on the next chapter that will be longer and will publish during the week  if time allows me to.)
