The compound was quiet as Annabel and Alex ate breakfast. Annabel knew her sister was still in mourning and could come up with no words of comfort. Jamani was awful, and Alex knew this, but that didn't make the pain of losing the woman who raised her hurt any less.
They stayed quiet as Annabel collected their dishes, as she rinsed them, as she watched Alex sit there, unmoving and silent. "Do you wanna talk about it?" Annabel offered as gently as she could.
She shook her head, "No, I just- I need a distraction."
Annabel gestured her head to the two familiar vampires sitting down in the living room. And Alex took the silent offer, following Annabel out of the kitchen and over to the couches. "Apparently she's new in town, Katie sold her some wolfsbane," Thierry said just as they walked in. He looked up, about to introduce himself to the newcomer, but Annabel subtly shook her head, so he just continued talking.
They sat down on the couch, Annabel in the center between Diego and Alex while Thierry sat on a couch chair across from them.
"Who's selling wolfsbane?" Alex asked, curious about any werewolf drama in the Quarter.
"My girlfriend, Katie. She's a witch in the Cauldron." Annabel was just fidgeting with a ring on her finger, her mother's sapphire ring she just found in a jewelry box in one of the dresser drawers. She wasn't paying attention, though she probably should have been.
"And with Klaus giving Elijah's coffin to Marcel-"
"Excuse me?" Annabel asked, her head shooting up and eyebrows raised in an accusatory manner as if Thierry was somehow at fault.
"Yeah, Klaus gave Elijah over as a peace offering," he explained, then adding more quietly, "Davina's got it."
"I gotta go," she said as almost an instinctive reaction, but Alex was quick to grab her wrist just as Diego stood up, knowing Annabel was on the move and wanting to prevent her from running into the Mikaelson family fire and inevitably getting burned.
"No," Diego said as Annabel pulled her hand out of her sister's grasp and stood up. "Seriously, Belle, don't get yourself in the middle of all this."
"Yeah, come on - you can't do this. You're just gonna get yourself hurt," Alex added, her voice sounding much more commanding as opposed to Diego's worry.
"Oh yeah? By who? Davina? Marcel? Klaus? Who's gonna hurt me, Alex?" Not waiting for an answer, she continued on, "I'll be fine." She turned back to Diego, "Move."
But he didn't. He just stared down at her as she stared up at him, each waiting for the other to give up.
Thierry scrunched his eyebrows and looked at Alex, who seemed just as confused by the interaction.
"Fine, if you're going, I'm coming too," Alex said, ending the staring contest.
"Fine," Annabel said with more contempt, and Diego finally moved to the side. She grunted at his behavior but held a little smirk as she led the way out.

"What was that?" Alex asked once they were a few blocks away from the compound. Annabel looked at the girl walking beside her, confused. "You know, the little staring contest you and that vampire had going on? You two aren't, like..."
"No," she rejected the idea, walking into the church and leading the way upstairs.
Just as Annabel opened the attic door, she saw a familiar blonde Original fly out the window. Her eyebrows raised a little and she looked at the young witch. "I'm not even gonna ask," she said as she threw her hands up in defense.
