ONE MONTH EARLIER

"Wake Up! You're going to be late!" My mother called at me from the bottom of the stairs. It slowly registered to me that if I didn't hurry up and get moving, I was going to be late for school on one of the most important days of my life. It was my 16 birthday, and I was going to have a super romantic date with my boyfriend. He promised me a picnic in the clearing of a forest after school, and then we would go swimming in the lake once it got dark and I could see the moon. It was supposed to be a sliver moon according to the internet, and I couldn't wait to see Johnathan. He was my first real kiss, my first true boyfriend, and even through the worst days of my life, he stuck with me, comforted me, and that is why we never did anything below the waist. I would rather die than see him go. I loved him with all my heart and nothing could prepare me for the day we would part. My best friend drove me to school, and I was to spaced out to carry on a real conversation, but Bella already knew everything that was on my mind. She was a great friend and didn't mind it when all I did was turn up the volume to the radio and day dream. Once school was out, I met up with John, and we drove to the forest in silence. Not the awkward kind, but the good kind. The kind where we were both thinking about how we would get to see each other in nature, both of our favorite places. I had always loved nature for the life other than humans, and Johnathan wanted to be a park ranger. We set up, and I went out to find all the best sticks to make a chair with. It was already beginning to be the best date ever. And there was a lot of dates to chose that title for. I loved John more than I ever had before that night. We went back and we communicated with ASL, because John was deaf. I loved the way he talked to me even though I couldn't hear his voice with my ears, I heard it with my heart. I couldn't tell you that I knew my life would change in a month.
