The aroma of coffee and freshly baked bread fills the air of the cafe as the two male hedgehog's went inside said establishment, their nose taking in the delectable scent. Taking their seats by the window, they looked over at the menu.

"So, what would you like?" Silver asked Shadow. The latter just shrugged, indicating that anything was fine.

The ivory hedgehog looked at the menu one more time before placing his order "Okay, I would like a cup of black coffee with 2 spoons of creamer and a cup of hot chocolate with a lot of froth, then two pieces of cinnamon buns please?" the waitress nodded as she left with their orders.

"You seem to know what to order" Shadow told Silver. Silver smiled as his response
"I come here often"
"I see"

Silver leaned closer to the table as he tried to engage in a conversation with the dark male.

"How long have you been working as a cop?" he began. A small smile made its way on Shadow's tan muzzle.

"Almost six years now.. Woah, six years already really? Time sure does fly fast" The ebony cop realized. His ears caught the sound of a small chuckle from the other hedgehog. His face must've looked odd. Shadow continued his tale.

"Actually, I've been in the police station ever since I was a kid, but only began working for them when I was 17. My father used to be the head of the police force, and as his death wish, my older brother became the chief, but I was technically the head; it's complicated to explain, really. My brother makes me take on a lot of cases here in the city, because he said, and I quote 'I have a terrifying demeanor that'll make criminals quiver into submission'" he added a small laugh at the end, and Silver laughed with him.

"Really? Well, you don't seem so scary to me. In fact, you're super nice" Their orders arrived and Silver thanked the waitress. "Even if you have that permanent bitch face" he teased.

"Hey! I do not have a bitch face!" Shadow retaliated just as playfully. Something about the ivory male just makes him feel so comfortable and relaxed, even if Shadow just met him yesterday. He took a sip of his coffee and observed him again. What was it about Silver?

"Well, enough about me, what about you?" The ebony cop began. Silver wiped the chocolate froth from his mouth.

"What do you want to know about me?"
"I don't know.. anything really"

He smiled at the cop "Well, I ran away from home, live alone, and I have several meager jobs just to support myself. My hobby is photography and I am 19 years old"

"wow.. what does it feel like living alone? Due to father's wishes, I live under the same roof as my brother."

"eh.. not as exciting as people think; you have no one to talk to, you pay for your bills alone, it's a lonely life to be honest."

"Then why did you run away?" Shadow immediately regretted asking that. He knew that he just asked something personal, and he saw sadness shimmer in those usually happy golden eyes.

"I was just stupid when I was younger. And even if I wanted to, I can't bear to face them again. It just feels shameful" another sip on his chocolate drink made up for the silence on the table. The cop didn't know what to do. 'Damn.. I shouldn't have asked that! Now it's awkward for the both of us now"

"Do you want to see a trick?" Silver asked
"A.. what?"
"A magic trick. I learned a few magic tricks since it looks awesome when other people do it. Can I borrow a coin?"
"Uhh.. alright" he handed the teen a coin.

Silver held the coin between his index and middle finger "watch carefully alright?" he waved his hand and the coin doubled, the other one placed between his middle and ring finger. The older hedgehog looked amused. He waved his hand again and now there were two more coins placed between the remaining spaces between his fingers. Shadow applauded at his trick. Then, he threw the coins in the air and caught them. But when he opened his hand again the coins disappeared.

"Where'd they go?" Shadow asked Silver, a hint of amusement laced in his voice. The latter just chuckled.
"It's behind your ear, silly" he reached behind the cops ear and pulled out a coin, before returning it to the cop.

"That was entertaining.. Well done. But how'd you do it?" Shadow asked again and took a bite from his cinnamon bun. Silver smirked at him playfully
"a magician never reveals their trick"
"oh, I see"

They finished their food and drinks and Silver paid for their meal. But when he pulled out his wallet, Shadow was shocked.

"What's wrong?" The ivory male asked. The cop shook his head
"Nothing.. for a second I thought that was one of my wallets"
"You lost your wallet?"
"It was stolen.. By Ace. He took four wallets from me just this month, and that looks like the first one he stole. he is one sneaky bastard"

The ivory male crunched his face in deep thought before asking Shadow.

"So... do you know anything about this thief?" he heard the other sigh.

"No...not a clue. I don't even know when or where he'll strike next" Shadow laid his head against the chair "I guess, there is no chance of capturing him"
"Hmm... well, what do you think is the pattern of his crimes? I'm sure he just doesn't go around and steal things willy-nilly" Suggested the younger one. The jet-black mobian thought about his words before speaking again.

"Now that you mention it.. I'll go over the files again tomorrow and see the similarities. There must be something I overlooked"

The two got up from their seats and left the cafe. Shadow offered his hand for a handshake "Thanks for the meal, Silver. Cops don't usually get treated." a smile formed on Silver's face.

"Don't mention it; after all, it's you guys who keep the city at peace." Silver took Shadow's hand and shook it.
"And thank you for the small suggestion. Anything that might be a clue to arresting Ace is helpful. I'll double check my case file again. Well, bye Silver" Shadow went his way. Silver waved his hand before whistling a casual tune and headed his own way.

That should give him some advantage on his hunt. I gave him so much clues, he'd have to be an idiot if he still couldn't get a damn clue about me. Besides, what's so fun about the chase when the pursuer is handicapped?
