Shadilver - Trademark Secrets

Chapter 4

  After the treat by the ivory hedgehog, the cop drove all the way back to headquarters, much to the surprise of his co-workers.

"Shadow? What the heck are you doing here? Isn't it your day off?" A blue hedgehog asked.

"Does it matter to you, Sonic?" He answered back. The latter just shrugged off, but his eyes never left the darker male as he watched him go over all of the files of Ace of Spades. Sonic huffed out a bit.

"You're still thinking about that case? Even during your day-off? Why?" Sonic asked in a teasing manner, earning an irritable grunt from Shadow
"Shut up. As a cop I can't rest when there is crime in the midst"
"Heh. You're just upset because he stole your wallet for the fourth time"

Crimson rubies were almost burning as the ebony cop gave a meaningful glare at his co-worker.

"Do.Not.Test.Me.Faker" every word was enunciated with a warning at his companion. Sonic shrugged his shoulders and went back on the computer he was using. Shadow was diligently browsing through every detail, making sure he won't miss anything.

"Shadow?" A sultry voice said "Why are you here? Isn't it your day off?"
"Don't bother him Rouge, or else the angry dog might bite ya!" The blue hedgehog joked. But Shadow paid no mind to them as he continued his search.

'Come on! There must be some detail I'm missing! There should be something; He must've fucked something up or was reckless or anything! I need something! Anything! Anything to help me get one step closer to capturing Ace!'

"Aaarrrgh! Nothing!" The exasperated hedgehog finally spoke after a while "come on, no one's that good of a thief. They always leave even the smallest clues behind but this motherfucker??? He's impossible!" Eyes were all on him, watching. The ebony cop sensed this and growled "and what the fuck are you all looking at????" Everyone went back to their own businesses when Mephiles came out.

"Shadow, May I have a word with you?" The chief's tone was serious. Shadow got up from his seat and went inside the office. Once the door was closed, everyone in the lobby let out a breath that they were holding.

Inside, Mephiles went to his seat and motioned for Shadow to do the same "We have talked about that behaviour of yours before"
"I know"
"I can fire you whenever I deem it necessary"
"...I know.."

The onyx hedgehog shook his head "Then why do you still treat your co-workers like that? You're not supposed to be here in the first place; it's your day-off"

Ruby eyes stared directly into bright emeralds "Because I may have gotten a lead" when Mephiles didn't say anything, Shadow continued "Well it's not exactly a lead, it was more like a suggestion. I met somebody today who suggested to look for some quirk that Ace had done; a pattern of some sort. That's what I tried to do sir"
"Lead or not, you are not to behave badly around your co-workers. Now; do I make myself clear, brother?"

Shadow bowed his head. This was ridiculous; he is 23 years old god dammit! Why was he letting his brother scold him like a kid?? "Yes sir" he replied after a while. Contented, Mephiles leaned against his chair and drummed his fingers against the table.

"So, where is this person who gave you this lead? Can you bring them here?" The ebony cop bit his lower lip "Well.... I don't know where he is right now" he said quietly. His brother was obviously pissed
"You don't know where he is? Do you happen to have any contact with this person?"
"......"

The chief shook his head in disappointment "Shadow... I don't want to see you in the station." The latter's eyes grew wide and protested. 

"B-but sir! I know there is some way to-"
"No no.. Take your day off, I don't want to see you in the station since you're not supposed to be here today. Now go. Shoo. Go. Good day officer" and with that he dismissed the cop. Once he was gone, Mephiles planted his palm on his face and groaned.

"oh Shadow, what am I going to do with you?"

In another part of town, the young ivory male went inside his little home and flopped on his bed, grinning like a mad man.

"That cop is such a fool! He's like putty in my hands haha! He'll neeeeeeverrrr know what'll hit him!" He said, laughing. Golden eyes went to the four emeralds that now rests inside his little box under his bed, then he smiled sadly.

"I'll be with you again soon, just wait" he sighed. 

Silver sat up and grabbed the map of the city resting on his dusty shelf. He opened it and marked the next museum with a red pen that he believes contains the next emerald. "I have done my research; the fifth one should be here." he spoke to himself "I need to be a bit careful though; my jewel heists didn't exactly go unnoticed, no thanks to Officer Shadow. Aaaaaaaanyway, I think it'll be fun if he actually went ahead and go inside the museum before I do. But I need to inform him of this little thing first"

Shadow was home, mindlessly flipping through channel after channel when he stopped at the news channel. Red rubies burned with anger as he watched.

"It seems that Ace was challenging Officer Shadow! He even painted the billboard about his next plan!" The newscaster said as the camera zoomed into the sign that was indeed, addressed to him. 

"STRIKING THE FAR EAST NATIONAL MUSEUM, BE THERE IF YOU'RE FAST ENOUGH TO CATCH ME, OFFICER SHADOW" - Ace

"Why that motherfucking son of a bitch! How dare he????" This was clearly an open challenge, but when was Ace gonna strike? He can't back down from this. His phone began to ring.

"Hello?"
"Holy shit Shadow did you see the news???????" The voice on the other line said.
"Yes I did Sonic. Now what the hell do you want?"
"Are you going to do something about it?"

Shadow turned off the tv "It could very well be a prank, and we don't know when he'll strike. He can't be that reckless and strike immediately after; he knows that I'll come to the museum and try to catch him, then he'll strike elsewhere and we'd all be MIA"
"What do you suggest we do then?"
"I never wanted to do this but.. I guess we can use team.... what did those idiots call themselves again? Cheesesticks? Chopsticks?"
"Team Chaotix?" Sonic finished for him
"Yeah. Them. I think we should get them to the scene for a while, just to make sure that Ace will really strike there. If confirmed, then we'll be ready and head to the Far East Museum"
"I like that idea! Oh and Sir Mephiles told us about that "lead" of yours. He said if you can bring him here, it'll be better"

The cop sighed and rubbed his temple "The problem is I don't know where he could be! I literally bumped into him'' Sonic became amused, and his voice clearly showed it.

"Well then, why don't Romeo here just bump into him again? Who knows? Maybe destiny will work for you~" He teased and laughed before hanging up" Shadow glared at his phone.

"Why you!!"
