She cries herself to sleep at night
Sitting under the window, staring at the stars
Wishing she could join them high above the clouds
She'd imagine sitting on the North Star
Dangling her feet into the abyss of the solar system
Looking down on her worries
She'd laugh at her fears, left in the atmosphere
And her reality stuck on the cold, hard ground
She'd forget about the good grades she struggled to keep
She'd forget about the boys she couldn't please
She would interact with the stars
And befriend the moon, talking until her voice was raw
Then they would send her home
She would awake as the sun rose
Wishing it weren't just a dream
But every morning, she'd awake
As tired as if she hadn't slept a wink
And the dew in her hair as if she'd passed through a cloud
Her throat sore as if she'd talked all night...
