The Surprise Attack

Hera's POV:

When Artemis and I got out of earshot she turned to me with a serious expression.

"Why are you here Hera?" Artemis said

"I was just talking to Nich. Is that an issue?" I responded

Artemis sighed and shook her head.

"It's just, I care about him. He is like a little brother to me. In fact, he brought Apollo and me closer together." Artemis said and I smiled

"I noticed how you two seemed to argue less during meetings." I stated and Artemis nodded

"I don't think Apollo and I have been closer..." Artemis said as Atlanta burst through the brush

I look at Atlanta and notice that she has a look of panic on her face.

"What is it Atlanta?" Artemis asks

"Dracaena snuck up on us and attacked... Nich took a spear to his shoulder." Atlanta said before taking a breath "Phoebe Thalia and Sarah are holding them back but they need help" with that Atlanta sprinted off with Artemis and myself right behind her

Artemis' POV:

We ran through the forest to where Nich, Thalia, Phoebe, and Sarah were. When we arrived what, I saw made my blood turn cold. Nich was lying on the ground in a small pool of blood with a spear sticking out of his shoulder with Phoebe trying to take it out without hurting him any farther. Thalia and Sarah were both standing in front of the two holding of a dozen Dracaena. Most of them were wielding spears except for one which held a sword.

"Nich!" I shout as I run over to him

Atlanta starts aiding her sisters in holding back the Dracaena. When I reach Nich I notice his hood is down. I look at his face and notice that its pale as a sheet of paper.

"Nich, are you okay?" I ask and he looks at me quizzically

He's just about to answer when I hear Thalia cry out in pain. I turn and I notice that a Dracaena was able to hit Thalia's leg with its spear, thus causing her to be defenseless as the offending Dracaena reared back it's spear to impale Thalia through the head.

"Killing the lieutenant of the hunt, the daughter of Zeusss no lessss. Thisss will be sssweet" the Dracaena hissed out as it reared back its arm

Just as the Dracaena was about to thrust forward, a flash of silver flew past me as I was pushed away from Nich. I look at the Dracaena and notice that Nich's sword is sticking out of its throat before it turns to dust. The other Dracaena look in Nich's direction as does Phoebe, Atlanta, Sarah, Hera, Thalia and myself. When I look at Nich I notice him standing, with his hood still down and his eyes ablaze.

"Don't. Touch. My. Sister!!!" Nich growls out as he pulls his staff off of his back and lights it on fire

I notice the spear that was in Nich's shoulder laying on the ground next to him as he steps forward toward the Dracaena. I watch in fascination as the flames on his staff elongate into what look like tendrils of pure fire.

"I'll make you regret ever attempting to hurt her" Nich snarls and everyone is shocked to see him talking so much

Nich swings his staff like a baseball bat, the flaming tendril following the movement until it hits a dracaena. The tendril wraps around the monster causing it to scream in pain as the flames burned its flesh. Nich then swings his staff around his head, causing the monster who is still attached by the flaming whip to follow his motions until he slams the edge of his staff into the ground causing the dracaena to also hit the ground with three times as much force. The moment the dracaena hits the ground it bursts into a shower of golden dust, however Nich doesn't hesitate as he continues his assault.

Third Person POV:

Artemis, Hera, Phoebe, Atlanta, Sarah, and Thalia, who was pulled back to Artemis and Hera by Sarah and Phoebe, all watched Nich in awe as he started spinning his staff around his body. The tendrils of fire following the ends of his quarter staff as he struck down dracaena left and right. After a while there was only one dracaena left and Nich put his staff in his left hand before he swung it so a tendril wrapped around its neck. He then pulled the monster toward him as his hidden blade extended out of his gauntlet and pierced the monsters stomach before he shoved it away as it turned to dust. Nich then turned towards Thalia and looked at her before he attempted to walk over. However, as Nich took his first step his face paled and he pitched forward. Artemis rushed forward and caught him and laid him down gently on the grass.

"APOLLO!!!!" Artemis shouted and suddenly there was a bright flash of light nearby

"What's up S- HOLY HERA!!!!" Apollo said as he rushed forward and helped Artemis take Nich's robes off "What in the name of his father did he do?"

"He took a spear to the shoulder before he stood up, pulled the spear out before throwing his sword at a dracaena to save Thalia's life" Hera said as Apollo finally got Nich's robes off

Everyone looked at Nich and saw a large hole in his left shoulder that was letting blood cascade down his torso. Thalia, who was leaning heavily on Phoebe and Atlanta, looked at Nich before she whistled.

"Dam, I was not expecting that from him... a freaking six pack? He's what Thirteen?" Thalia said as Apollo sighed

"No, he is turning fourteen in a few days, now can you please be quiet? I need to focus... It seems like he lost a lot of blood." Apollo says as he pulls out a flask of nectar and he pours some of the godly fluid into Nich's mouth before pouring the rest onto the wound itself

The wound had stopped bleeding and was now slowly knitting itself back together. Apollo then stated to chant in Ancient Greek and a golden glow surrounded Nich causing the wound to heal slightly faster. The hunters, Artemis, and Hera all watched Apollo work and they all realized that beads of sweat were starting to form on the Sun Gods' forehead. After what felt like hours but was really only around ten minutes, Apollo stopped chanting and fell onto his side. Artemis ran forward and grabbed a piece of ambrosia from Apollo's pocket and stuffed it into his mouth, forcing him to eat the godly food. After Apollo finished the ambrosia, he sat up and looked at Nich's wound which was completely healed except for a faint scar that showed the entry point of the spear.

"He'll be fine. But next time... make sure he doesn't do anything stupid. I can't keep healing him like that all the time... well I could... but I don't want to..." Apollo said as Artemis laughed

"I know Brother, but we can't stop him from protecting his family." Artemis said as Apollo nodded and flashed off

"I think we should stay here until Nich wakes up. Don't you agree Artemis?" Hera said and Artemis nodded

Sarah walks over to Nich's sword, picks it up, and then walks back over to where everyone else is and sits down next to Nich with his sword in her lap.

"He really is our brother, isn't he?" Sarah asked

"Yes, he is. And I'm happy he is" Thaila said as Phoebe and Atlanta both nodded
