Chapter 6

I was still half in a dream…sleepy. My eyes were too heavy to open. I rolled over and cuddle deeper into my warm blanket. Aaah, I love sleep…

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!

No!!!!!!!!

BEEP BEEEP BEEEEEP!!!!!

I opened my eyes and hit the alarm clock hard. Stupid thing! For almost the first time in my life I felt so sleepy…I wonder why? Oh, wait…I visit Liz yesterday and I had loads of homework left and I worked till half past one and now I have to get up six o’clock…yeah, must be that!

I got up sleepily. My hair was beyond messy. I dressed my self into plain colors today: Gray, blue and white. My mom was sitting at the kitchen table when I entered the kitchen. Her drown-green eyes were sleepy and her bob needed a serious brush. She had her nightgown on and had a cup of tea. Barely touched it.

“Hello, mom?” I said-ask, she wasn’t the usual early bird, as you know. She looked up and smiled sleepily, “Hey, Talia”

“You’re up early” I said and made myself some coffee.

“Couldn’t sleep, I…” My mom’s voice trailed of.

“Yeah, I’m listening” I sat down allowing my mind to dig into hers.

*(sigh) Just say it Bianca! You’ll have to tell her some day…

I looked down at my mug. My mom sighed again.

“Talia” I looked up meeting her tired eyes, “This is gonna be hard but…you see, dear……the daycare…where I work, right. Uummm…they’re closing” She looked down, trying to hide her tears, “I…I don’t have a job anymore…” Shock came over me…she was jobless. Ok, I’ve actually known about this but I never knew if it was true but now, hearing my mother saying it. I just felt so miserable. Tears came running down my mother’s cheek.

“Don’t worry mom” I said softly, “It’s okay”

I smiled at my mother. She took another sip of her tea before giving me the last bit of information.

“Darling…I’m going to look for another job” She smiled, “But I’m…we’re going to need more…you should find I job for over the weekends…if that’s ok with you”

“Yeah…I guess” I said. Work over weekend…not my idea of fun! But on the other hand my mom and I really need it…I could do it.

Lizzy will be a bit disappointed, we won’t be able to go shopping or do crazy things. Juliet…well, I don’t think she cares much, as long as we’re all happy, she’s happy. I know there’s a dinner down the road…maybe they need help, or the SPCA… I love animals!

“Talia?” My mom brought me back from my daydreaming, “You should go to school…you’re going to be late”

“Umm, yeah!” I got up and head to the door, “Bye mom!”

The school was just as crowded as every other day. I made my way through the teenagers, trying to control my mind. Liz and Juliet were standing outside our first class…history. Liz was in a shocking blue t-shirt and wore a black shirt. Juliet was totally different dressed: Plain white shirt and a dark skinny jean.

I focused on Liz…

*My goodness! Where’s Talia? Ooooh!!! There!

“There!” She yelled on top of her lungs! Ouch…

“Hello” I said giving each of them a hug.

“Hey” A voice behind me said. I turned and met two beautifully, deep, heart-breaking blue eyes. Umm…what’s his name? Juliet’s…cousin…J…J?? Jacques! Or was it Jack???

“Hi…Jacques” Juliet said a bit shocked…and worried.

I quickly turned my gaze to Liz.

*OMG! So hot! Hmmm, those deep blue eyes…brown hair…I guess his like 6 foot something. Totally my type!!! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Sadly I couldn’t read Juliet’s mind but her face expression was blank. I turned back to her ‘cousin’.

???

Wait a sec!! I can’t read his mind either! I seriously need some practice! Loads of practice!

“So…hi!” Liz said playing with a loose strand of hair hanging down her cheek.

“Hey” Jacques said, “So, I was thinking since we are…related, I need some help with the classes, lunch times, teachers, kids, sports, culture activities, biology and yeah, basically that…Juliet?”

That’s a lot of help…

“N-no” Juliet said.

“Yes!” Lizzy said almost at the same time.

“I’m sure you’ll be fine” Juliet said smiling sweetly at Jacques.

“Ok…” Jacques lift up his shoulders, “I guess I should go then…”

“Hell no!” Lizzy said looking at me.

*Say he must stay! Come on!!! Help a girl in need!!! Think of my future!

If she was thinking of marrying him then…then…then she’s still very much ok and normal. If her imagination was real she would be married about seven times! Or eight times…

“What do you think Talia?” Liz said when I didn’t react.

“Ummm…” What would be the worst? Liz, who wants to date the guy? Or…Juliet???

I’ve made my choice.

“I don’t care…” That’s safe…right?

Juliet gave me a look, not a good look…on the other hand, not a bad one either. Liz glared at me. And when I say glare…I mean GLARE!!!

“Nah, I think I’ll leave it then” Jacques said, “It would be a bit creepy to be in a non-guy group…”

“Ok, we get the point” Juliet said. Eager for him to leave.

“Oh, but please…” Lizzy said giving Jacques a lovely, sweet, innocent smile, “do feel free to say hello…”

It must have been my imagination but for a split second I was sure I saw I small sign of jealousy in Juliet’s eyes. Not the why-should-my-cousin-be-so-hot but the oh-no-you-didn’t-just-say-that one. Got to be my imagination…

For the rest of the day Lizzy sat dreaming constantly about Jacques. She was sure he was hers…her soul mate…her future husband. Juliet spoke very little for the rest of the day and I got a big ugly headache. It sometimes happens with the whole mind… you already know what I’m going to say, right?

Other that all of that, my day was pretty nice (if you could find something nice about a friend that’s sure she’s found her one and only and can’t stop talking about him and another friend who’s in silent mode and a big headache…)

I was walking home from school. Cars rushing by, random people crossing a zebra line. I was just moving on, thinking about my mother. Thank goodness, she didn’t do something wrong…but she didn’t have a job. She said I should find a place to work over the weekends, which could help. I guess it could…look at the bright side, I’ll have some experience.

“Talia!” I heard a familiar voice behind me. I turned to see both Juliet and her cousin, Jacques.

“Hey, guys” I said still trying to get the eyebrow-lifting thing right.

“Hey, we really need to talk” Juliet said smiling.

I looked at her and Jacques, both had very serious faces on. Juliet looked at Jacques and he nodded.

“It’s really important” She said, “please”

I nodded, “sure”
