Mikayla POV
I sat on the orphanage bed, looking around. It was weird to think that this was the last night that I would spend there. Tomorrow I would be going home with my adoptive family, the Miranda's. They were very nice, but of course I already knew the dad. Not personally, but he was the writer and star of the hit Broadway show Hamilton. That's right. I was about to be adopted by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
----------------------------------------------------------
I woke up the next day to a flurry of movement outside my door. The voice of Madeline, the director of the orphanage, floated through my door.
"Mikayla, sweetheart, are you up?"
"Yeah." I respond, rather groggily. "I'm up."
"Okay, sweetheart, just get your stuff ready to go, the Miranda's will be here in an hour." She says, the door still closed.
"Okay." I say, throwing the covers off of me.
I pull myself out of bed, and grab the only bag I own, which is my school backpack. As backpacks go, it's fairly large. I throw in the few things I own, including clothes, phone, charger, earbuds, and toiletries.
I take one last look around the room. This room has been mine since I was 10. For four years now, this has been my home. I feel a bit sad leaving it, but I'm still thrilled to be going home. For good.
