Jess's pov

after we got settled, dinner came out, Spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread, ohh the irony.  James laughed "What is it James?" I asked, he sighed "I can read your thoughts Jess honey," he laughed again, well crap. I blushed and ate some pasta , "Girls we have something to tell you ok?" Emmet asked. "sure Emmet, we are listening," Angel said. Emmet and James sighed then Emmet started "there is a ball of some sorts here in a few days, the guests are all high class vampires or our friends," he paused and angel interjected, "what does this have to with me or Jessy?" she said. "well umm.. " he paused and looked at James who sighed and nodded, "well, angel most vampires keep humans as pets unless as in your case the human in question is related directly to a vampire, but Jess is my pet," Emmet explained. Angel stared at Emmet then looked at James, " is this true Jess is your pet" she spit the words out with so much venom in her voice I was surprised. "it's true Angel, but it's ok I'd rather be here than with any of my previous owners," I stepped in covering for James he shot me a thankful look. "is that why you sometimes call me pet or human when you get mad, dad?" she looked at him. he sighed then said "yes." she looked at them with fury burning in her eyes "well that's awful I can't believe that you would do that to another person especially someone like Jess who looks like she's been through so much already, you guys really are just as bad as all the books say," she said in a completely level voice. Emmet and James's eyes popped out of their heads and their jaws dropped to the floor. Angel laughed and I giggled quietly   " i can't believe that you two believed me, wow" she laughed. Emmet smiled then James did too " i can't believe you didn't see that coming," Emmet said "see wha-" she said as meatball landed on her forehead. everyone burst out laughing even I laughed a little. after a little bit we all were calm and talking again Emmet said "oh yeah originally we meant to ask Angel do you want to go to the ball, you'd go as a pet is the only thing we have to warn you of." Angel thought it over and then said "no I don't want to go, sorry Jess." "it's ok I get it," I said, "Angel can you go up to your room please, we need to talk to jess alone," Emmet said. "sure Emmet, can daddy come up with me?" she asked. "sure Angel i'll be up in one minute get your pajamas on," James said. Angel stood up and walked out and up the stairs, when we heard her door close Emmet began to explain and James left. "Jess you have to go to the ball, ok?" Emmet asked, I nodded. "the problem is  you are classified as a pet and a lot of vampires know that we have you and a lot of your previous owners will be there, so in order to keep you safe we might use a leash, is that ok with you?" he said then quickly added on "please tell me the truth," he finished. "I-I'm sorry i'm n-not comfortable with that," I said quietly. "Alright then you have to promise to stay right next to me or James at all times," he said, I nodded, I have never been given a choice before, they usually walk up behind me snap a collar on my neck and clip a leash to it. "Jess we would never do that," Emmet said, I blushed remembering he could read my mind. "thank you Emmet and James although he's not in this room right now," I whispered looking down, "Jess that means a lot to me and James" he said speaking for James as well. " why don't you go upstairs and get ready for bed me or James will be up in a few minutes to check on you ok?" Emmet asked, I nodded and took all the dishes and put them in the sink then went upstairs.

James's pov

I walked up stairs to find Angel and put her to bed, I went into my room and looked around for Angel, I didn't see her so I walked into her room and found her sitting on her bed. "hey Angel ready for bed?" I asked "yes daddy" she said perking up as soon as she heard my voice. I walked over and sat next to her on the bed, she lied down and closed her eyes "daddy," she said after a few seconds, "why is Jess a pet?" she asked. "well most humans are, but Jess has been a pet for almost 6 years I think and she is very used to living as a pet which is why she doesn't talk much around me or Emmet, does that answer your Question?" I said. "yeah," she said sleepily. after I heard her breathing even out I decided she was sleeping," I love you Angel," I whispered standing up and kissing her cheek. I passed Jess's room and heard her walking around so I knocked and when I heard her respond that I could I walked in. "hey Jess you ok?" I asked when I saw her pacing, "yes, I was just thinking about the ball," she said. "Oh it will all be ok nothing will happen its just most of the upper class vampires on this side of the world gathering in one house," I said sarcastically, she laughed softly. "well i'll leave you to go to sleep could probably use it," I finished leaving the room to talk to Emmet. I went downstairs and talked with Emmet until we decided to go rest in our rooms.
