What's going on?
How have you come to...this?
You're still in your high heels, he's still in his purple dress shirt. You can still catch a whiff of your own perfume even though you haven't refreshed it during the entire evening. You never got a chance to, simply because it has been such a great date. Or rather, it was a great date.
It's your 10th...11th date? You can't remember because you stopped counting after your third. You really, really, really like this guy. You haven't told anybody yet, but you've secretly wondered if he's going to be the one. Time flies by whenever it's spent with him. Topics never run out when you talk. Laughter fills the air every time you meet.
This evening was the same, until...yes, you can pinpoint precisely the moment when your bubble burst.
You already regret having suggested a trip to the comic book store. Your head tells you that it's better to know things like this as early as possible, but your heart whines and wants several more dates with Chris. Ignorance is bliss, right?
"Hey, Chris, come check this out!" You picked a soft toy up and made it kiss your date's cheek.
He closed his eyes and smiled, "Ooohh this is the best! Softest kiss I've ever gotten!"
"What do you mean?" You protested, pulled the toy away, and planted a big kiss on his cheek with your own lips instead.
"Noooo!" He laughed and took a step back in mock horror.
You would have kept trying to kiss him if the shopkeeper didn't clear his throat and glanced at your direction.
The two of you immediately quieted down and started acting normal. You were in semi-formal wear too for god's sake. That stupid restaurant you went to has a dress code.
"Oh my god, I can't believe it." Chris exclaimed in a whisper, as if he's in a library right then. "I can't believe they have this. Not many people know this character." He pointed at a superhero on a comic book cover.
You followed his gaze, taking a mental note under "Things He Likes".
"My future children will need to read this, I swear." He voice stayed low, but you could hear him well enough. "Of course they'll need to know the obvious, like Captain America, but this, this too. Yep." He nodded at his own thought.
But you froze there. Staring at his face. Praying he's not one of those guys.
He simply continued, "The oldest will need to learn about all these superheroes, and then he'll teach his little sister about them too. That'd be fantastic."
Involuntarily, you widened your distance from him. You could clearly tell just from his face, that he'd already picked out names for his future children. Your heartbeat quickened, but not for a good reason.
