Tom has been stressed lately, and you've been trying your best to make him lighten up at every chance you get, by any means necessary. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But of course, you're not stupid, you know when he really needs to be serious so you'd shut up...but you don't know if today is one of those days.
Today he's supposed to make a short casual video at home for charity – something that he's done so many times before – but you can tell he's feeling uneasy because he's fidgeting, mumbling to himself for the things he needs to say to the camera, and he's stacking the books over and over again on the coffee table.
"You're gonna be fine. Just record the thing already!" You help him double-check the angle of the camera, before stepping aside since you're casting a shadow on his face.
"Yeah, I know, I know. Just give me another minute." He says to no one in particular. He hasn't made any eye contact for the past 15 minutes. You know what it means. So you go to the kitchen to grab something to eat instead while you wait.
Another five minutes passes and all you can hear is still the impatient mumbling. You lean on the doorframe, sweep the stubborn biscuit crumbs off your lips, and wonder why Tom has been this stressed lately. This is not like him.
He meets your empty gaze and before you know it, he's mirroring your gesture, sweeping something off his lips too.
You frown, wondering what he's doing. And guess what? He frowns back, his fingertips still searching for imaginary crumbs.
Instantly, your focus is back and your attention is on. You know you need to make good use of this moment. So you glance at his lips, lift your eyebrows, and start sweeping your lips like a crazy person. As expected, he does exactly the same.
You can't suppress your giggles anymore, and you snort with laughter.
Tom freezes for a split second, and finally brings his fingers down from his lips. "What?"
