Part 36

Niki's P.O.V.

I woke up with a jolt. There was a ringing noise coming from the front of the hospital. I looked around the room. Bain and Em were still sleeping, but Xavier was standing up, looking around alert. I look over to the bed.

"Liv." We both said at the same time.

We started running out the door. "Where do you think she went?" Xavier asked, jogging beside me.

"There's a forest right out the entrance. She probably wanted to get some air, or check on the boys." We got in the elevator to go down to the main floor.

"How are you not out of breath?" He said, leaning over to catch his breath.

"I'm used to running far distance." I said as the door dinged open.

We ran to the front desk. Freda was sitting there on the phone.

"Can you just get security down here?" She took a pause. "Then send one or two! A patient is out of the hospital and nowhere to be seen." Another mumble from the phone. "I understand there is a fight, but I need someone to look for our patient.... Yes I understand... Ok... Thank you."

"Freda? What's going on?"

"Oh, just a patient. Um, they went out of the hospital, and security said there is a fight up on the 4th floor, but everything'll be okay."

"We can go look for the patient." Xavier said.

"Oh no, I sure wouldn't want Bain mad at me. And it could be danger-" I zoned out and looked over at Xavier. He nodded and we both bolt for the door.

"Niki! Xavier! Get back here!"

We ran into the woods. After we ran for about half a mile we stopped. I took a deep breath.

Xavier hunched over and breathed in. "How.. in the world.. do you run... for that long.. without.. dying for.. breath." He finished huffing.

"I guess I'm more fit? I don't know, I just run and don't stop."

"Well, that doesn't.. matter that much. What does matter.. is that you gave me this." He pulled out the object I gave him yesterday in the bathroom. I still didn't know what it was.

"What even is that?" I asked, super confused.

"You gave it to me, how do you not know what it is?" I just looked at him. "Well, it's a GPS. It tracks the people that you enter into its system. I might have swiped a few people's hair while they were sleeping in a not-so-stalker way."

"That's kind of weird."

"You could say, but let's talk about it later." We started walking deeper into the forest. After a little while, he spoke up. "It had something else attached, but I still don't know what it is, but I thought you'd know. Since you gave it to me and everything." He took out a stick like object.

"What, you want me to play catch?" I joked. He laughed. The stick illuminated light. We looked at each other and giggled.

Wait. The stick glows?

Xavier kept giggling, but I stared as the stick slowly went back to normal.

"Xavier." He stopped laughing and looked at me. I saw a tint of orange my eyes. I grabbed the stick from him, put it my mouth, and started running as fast as I could, deeper and deeper into the woods.

My eyes turned red. I ran as fast as I my growing legs could carry me. I ran past trees. More trees. More trees. Then I ran into an opening. There, trees formed a giant circle, like a battle field.

I saw something, or someone in the middle of the field. I stopped running and hid behind a tree. There seemed to be a long silence before fighting erupted. Xavier came up behind me.

"Why did you run? I could barely... see where you were-" I put my hand over his mouth.

"Watch." I pointed to the fighting.

"We have to go stop it! What're you waiting for!"

Tears clouded my eyes. I could only see just the outline of the fighting before I had to sit down and sob.

"Niki? What's wrong? This is what we trained for, to stop this chaos. Why break down now?" Xavier sat beside me. He put his hand on my arm.

"You didn't see who was out there. Only she knows. And the knowledge of the she-wolf is enough to lay down my sword." I looked over and no one was fighting anymore.

Just a girl standing in her wolf form.

Laying there in the open.

While everyone simply looked.
