Agent Ember

just a kid

It was cold, the middle of winter in fact. Snow fell down coating the ground in a blanket of white. I pulled my coat tighter against me. Not because of the cold,that was never a problem, I radiate heat. It was more for the appearance of it, people may question why a little girl in a ally-way with only a shredded coat and a 10 times to big t-shirt on. However as the day got on the weather got worse, the snow was comeing down harder and the temperature dropped into the negatives. I knew things where bad when I started to actually shiver,not for appearance sake,but because I was actually cold. I closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep, despite the cold.

Natasha

I was walking down the street with Clint after a mission in Mexico,we had been under cover for a couple of months,and had just finished debriefing with Fury and we where going to get some Coffee. We where on our way back when Clint stopped us, "Nat.." He jestured his head towards a kid on the side of the street, she was a tiny thing she had long bright red hair that was all tangled,her face was covered in dirt,she was shivering most likely from the cold. I sighed knowing what Clint wanted to do,"Clint, Coulson said no more strays." He looked at me with a smirk on his face, he put his hands up in a defensive position, " We can still talk to her right?" I rolled my eyes and followed behind him as he walked up to the girl. He squatted down next to her, he put his hands out to shake her awake but before he could her eyes shot open, she had amber eyes they danced like they where in fire, I had never seen anything like it.

She looked up at Clint, "Hey, my names Clint, what's your name?" He asked the kid. She looked him over as if she was deciding if Clint was a threat or not, "Ember", " Ember where are your parents?" Asked Clint. "There dead" She responded, I was suprised at how calm the girl was, she reminded me of myself when I was in the red room. "You got a home?" He asked her, the girl glared at Clint, Nat saw the split second of suprise on his face,Nat had to admit, it was a pretty good death stare. (For those of you who are familiar with DC think of it like the bat glare. For those of you who aren't well... just think of it as a really scary stare) "No, and if you try to take me to CPS (child protection services) You'll regret it." Nat raised her eyebrow Clint chuckled," Alright I won't turn you in but, how about you come back with me and Nat? We have food and we can get you a new jacket,and anytime you want to leave,you can." I held back a sigh, I knew Clint would end up picking this kid up,he had a soft spot for kids. "Fine." The girl stood up and we started walking back to the ship.

I went in to talk to Coulson while Clint and Amber waited outside. Coulson looked up from the papers from his desk,"Hey Nat,you already finished the mission report?" He asked "Clint picked up a stray" Coulson sighed, Clint was known for picking up new agents and recruits" "Have they been breifed, do they now what there walking into? He asked "Yes but, she's a kid" Clint had told the girl the basics about S.h.e.i.l.d and what we do on the way here. " Alright have them come in" I walked into the hallway to grab the two before heading back in, Coulson turned to the girl, "My name is Coulson I'm a agent here at S.h.e.i.l.d,and you are?" He asked "Ember" She paused for a moment before continuing, "Valdez" Coulson nodded. "Miss. Valdez, your aware what we do here at S.h.e.i.l.d correct?" He waited for her to nod before continuing, " You will be offered a home and food on the condition you become a agent here. You will be trained and eventually go on missions, do we have a deal?" Coulson held his hand out for Ember to take. She paused for a moment before taking his hand. " Welcome to S.h.e.i.l.d Miss. Valdez"
