Theresa twitched on the ground as the vampire blood filled her, she felt her heart stop and her organs fail. It was like dying a thousand painful deaths, enduring the suffering of all tormented souls in the underworld. Worst of all she could see life flash before her eyes, not her own though. She saw all of the lives that the vampire that had bitten Cherish had taken, including Cherish's.

A small girl with dark brown hair stood by her mother’s grave alone and years passed as Theresa saw her grow each and every time she visited that grave. People pointed and laughed, she woke one morning with bleached orange hair cut badly, she cried in the mirror. Theresa felt each inquire that Cherish took and saw the ghosts that haunted her and told her of her destiny.

"Make it stop!" Theresa screamed.

She saw her train, she saw her fall. Every sorrow that her best friend had ever felt, so did Theresa. It was pain that she didn't realise she could ever feel. Next she saw the unthinkable she saw explosions, erupting from Cherish's, no not Cherish's a girl who looked like her, hands. She saw Cherish knock at the door of a farm house with Luel and Judd.

When Theresa awoke she could hear the voices of her parents.

"She can't stay here." Her step-mother said.

"Don't be so cruel!" Tommo shouted.

Theresa felt her step-mother sweep her hair out of her face. "I don't want the guild to hurt her. I want her to be safe."

Then her dad spoke. "Tommo you're going to have to say your goodbyes now."

"Where's she going?" Tommo asked.

She choked a little and spoke. "I'm going to Fabien aren't I?"

Theresa took one last walk around the house with Tommo, breathing in the smell of each room. She looked at the twin’s messy room, etched the bed sheets in her mind and fought off the tears. As she said her goodbye's she looked at the pain in her father’s eyes and imagined how he must have felt leaving her mother all those years ago.

"Look after each other, write me letters if you can." She said standing at the front door. "Don't be too upset, remember I'm not dead, I'm gonna live forever."

Cherish stood around the corner from the house with Judd. The air was cold and crisp and the moon seemed to shake as though Theresa's presence seemed strike fear into its heart.

"I'm going to miss the sun." Theresa said, throwing her bag over her shoulder.

Cherish put her hand on her shoulder. "You'll be able to at school, there's a highly potent spell on the grounds." She spoke so quietly, it was unnatural. "I'm so sorry Theresa; I should have been the one looking after you."

Theresa smiled. "You were, you always were."

"Does this mean we won’t see you again?" Judd asked.

"I guess so, but we can write letters." She said, trying to sound as cool as possible.

Cherish stopped in the middle of the street. "I've got one last favour to ask of you before you leave, a favour that means we'll see you again."

Theresa span on the balls of her feet. "What is it?!"

Cherish still spoke quietly with a serious look that wasn't a customary expression for her. "The school you’re going to is called Salem heights. In that school there will be a girl called Auburn Pendragon, you'll know her when you see her."

"Pendragon like you?" Theresa asked.

Cherish nodded. "I've never met her but she's a part of my family’s prophecy, she is my family’s prophecy. It's been hard gathering all of the pieces together but I have a contact. He gave me notes to explain what he knows and I'm giving it to you." She took out a leather clad brook and handed it to Theresa.

The book felt cold in her hands but comforting. "I don't understand."

"She's the dead princess of Fabien. I only know as much as I do because she lived in a town called Hangman’s Den in Yorkshire. I think she might have Excalibur or may be key to finding Avalon. I don't know why she's important but she is and if you could send me any information on her that might help, look after her from afar I'd be more in debt to you than I am now."

"She shares your name but who is she other than a dead princess?" Theresa asked, her mind reeling from all that she had been told.

"She's my cousin, her brother died in the fires of Dark town. She's the last in line to the throne."

"You're related to the princess of Fabien?" Judd said. "Why does nobody tell me this stuff?"

Cherish hit him hard on the arm. "Because you guys all thought I was crazy. I mean I am a little bit but you can't just believe a girl's related to a mythical king and a magical princess." She laughed.  "The book has profiles on her coven. Read up on them before you get there but keep your distance for the time being."

They parted at the secretly hidden portal between the human world and the station that would take Theresa home.

"At least you don't have to go through settling school. I hear that's a bummer." Cherish laughed giving Theresa a tight hug.

Judd followed and kissed her on the cheek. "I'll try and help the boys get through it. Luel said she will too." And that was it.
