Marco stared at Star, stunned.
What have I done?Later that day after school, Marco searched around the halls to find Star. When he couldn't find her, he gave up, sighed, and went home.
Marco decided to walk instead of taking the bus to clear his head. He just had someone special that he liked and liked him back. But he lost her. He mentally face palmed muttering 'stupid' to himself over and over.
Marco kicked pebbles along the side of the road, head down with his hands in his pockets.
Along the way, he could hear a familiar voice. He looked up to see Star...with Oscar...outside his house...talking.Not wanting to be seen, Marco ducked into some bushes near the two. He knew eavesdropping was wrong, but right now, he didn't care, he just wanted to know what was going on.
"So, do you like unicorns?!" Star asked in her usual bubbly voice. He head was in her hands as she sad on the roof of his car.
"Sure, I guess." Oscar replied, focused on tuning his instrument.
Star frowned slightly. Taking a deep breath she tried again.
"Do you want to go ice skating later?" She questioned.
"Nah, not really, dude. But, hey, maybe some other time."
At this point, Star was disappointed, and Marco wasn't mad about it. He knew that Star would no longer have an interest in Oscar and come back to him! Perfect!
That gave Marco an idea.
Some time later...
Star sullenly opened the door to the house that she shared with the Diaz family. Walking in, she looked up to see Marco dressed in a jacket, scarf, hat, and gloves holding two pairs of ice skates. One black and the other pink with unicorns.
"Thought we could go for a spin." Marco said smiling from ear to ear.
Star's frown immediately turned up-side-down and nodded, snatching the pair of skates from Marco.
Once at the rink, Star set out on the ice weaving in between other skaters there. She smoothly glided her way around the rink. Picking up speed, Star did a graceful leap and spin through the air. Marco watched her in fascination.
Star skated back to where Marco was still standing.
"What are you doing? C'mon!" She said enthusiastically grabbing his hands. He wobbled on the ice after she let go of his hands. Slipping, he fell on the hard, icy rink. Star giggled in realization.
"Marco, have you ever skated before?" Asking quizzically.
Marco blushed sheepishly and shook his head in embarrassment.
"Tsk tsk tsk, well we are going to change that aren't we." Pulling him back up, Star started him off slow and dragged him along the slippery ice. After what seemed like an eternity of slips and falls, he could finally skate without any assistance.
They spent the rest of the day laughing and having fun just like they used to. As friends.
Later that evening, Marco treated Star to frozen yogurt as they walked back home. No one spoke for a while, but the silence was comfortable. Marco spoke up first.
"So...Star. I was just wondering...I-if you wanted to...you know," he stuttered,"talk about...us?" Marco squinted, not sure how she would react.
"What do you mean? I thought we were fine." Star said trying to lick froyo off her nose. Marco quickly wiped it away as she mumbled a 'thanks'.
"I mean, yeah, I guess we are fine now...but I wanted to know how you felt about us possibly dating?" It came out as more of a question as he blushed profusely.
Star looked startled for a second. She stopped in her tracks looking pained.
"Marco," she whispered, trying to find a way to say this gently,"I-I don't think I like the idea of dating. We had such a good time today just being how we used to be. I just want to be friends."
