I walked toward the prison, my friends Grace and Jenna in tow. I heard a twig snap and I whipped my head around. “Grace!” I hissed. She looked guilty. “We’re supposed to be quiet! Do you want to let their group know we’re here?!”

Grace shook her head. I sighed, turning back around. We were hoping to sneak around the prison without being seen. Sadly, today was not out day. “HEY! You!” I heard from a watchtower. “Crap!” I heard Jenna shout. I vaguely heard Grace scream something, but my eyes were locked with a pair of blue ones.

Those eyes, I knew them from somewhere. A distant memory tugged at my mind. It was swimming to the surface, and then it was gone. my concentration was shattered as the growls and moans from the biters behind us got louder.

I spun around a drew my sword. I had no time to think, I just reacted. I swung my sword and it cut a biter’s head in half, splattering black blood all over my once clean outfit. I took the next one’s head off completely. The next one got cut in half. I couldn’t fight them all.

So, I took off in the direction I had seen Grace and Jenna go. It just happened to be in the direction of the prison gates. “Let us in!” My friends yelled, rattling the links in the fence. I could see the biters approaching us, getting alarmingly close.

“You’re killing us!” I shouted over the ruckus. “Please, just for the night. We can leave in the morning.” I called out, pleading with their morality. Thankfully, a green eyed girl about 14 came to our rescue. “Thank you!” I said, practically shaking from relief. She was sliding open the gate when a boy with brown hair grabbed her hand.

He pulled her off to the side and began speaking rapidly with her. Between the wild hand gestures and raised voices I gathered that they were having an argument of some sorts.”I just don’t want you to get hurt! After everyone that’s died, I couldn’t handle losing you too.” the boy exclaimed, looking the girl in the eye.

They leaned in and almost kissed when a biter started rattling the fence behind them.It startled both of them, but neither were scared. The girl drew a knife and plunged it into the biter’s  head. She pulled it out and ran towards the gate, unlocking it fully and allowing us inside.

Jenna fell over and Grace started crying. I looked around and saw the girl approaching us. “Hello.” I said cautiously. We’d had more than a few bad run-ins with survivor groups. I didn’t feel like trying to be eaten alive again.

“Hi.” the girl replied. “Who are you?”

“My name’s Angelina Jenner and the two other girls I have with me are Jenna and Grace.”

“I’m Cassidy and the boy you saw earlier is Carl. And sorry about my brother almost shooting you, he thought you guys were walkers.”

By this time Jenna and Grace had found their way over to me and were standing behind me. “Walkers?” they questioned. “Biters.” I answered. They nodded. The boy named Carl was walking up behind Cassidy.

When he arrived, he tried to subtly grab her hand. I nearly laughed. Those two clearly liked each other. I saw the rest of their group approaching in the distance. It wasn't that large, almost like a large family. I hoped it wasn’t like Woodbury, which I’d narrowly escaped with my life from.

Either way, it was time to meet the rest of the prison.
