Chapter Six
I could barely hear his voice through her door but it was clear that he was quite relaxed. I couldn’t just wait outside her door so without thinking I twisted the doorknob and pushed it open. Diego was lying on her bed, his head resting on both his arms with his right leg over his left, a smirk playing amongst his face. Ignacia stood beside the bed, attempting to push him off the bed with rage evident on her face. They both whipped their face towards me when I entered.
I coughed as the room had a pungent smell. I saw a few lit cigarettes on her desk. Since when did she start to smoke?
“Emma,” Diego said softly, pushing Ignacia aside before standing up and making his way over to me. I frowned as I moved aside.
“Oh wow! Why don’t you invite the rest of Spain into my room too?” Ignacia said sarcastically through gritted teeth. “Both of you just get out of my room! Have your little reunion elsewhere. Kiss and make up, isn’t that what’s just gonna happen? Poor, poor Liam.” She taunted me.
Diego continued to move towards me; if I moved right, he’d move right. If I went left, he’d also go that way. I did try to leave the room but somehow he slid passed me and blocked my path.
“Liam’s downstairs,” I trembled, looking over Diego to catch Ignacia’s eye. She refused to look at me. I hate her so much. She knew they were coming today and she brought him here.
“I know.” She shrugged her shoulders. She gathered up a packet of cigarettes, her keys and her phone, placing them into the pocket of the skinny jeans she was wearing.
“That’s why she called me over. Is he downstairs? I should go have some fun,” Diego continued. No, no, no! He can’t do this. My heart rate quickened and I screamed.
“Liam!” I hoped that he would run upstairs and get Diego out of here.
“Oh even better. Saves me from going downstairs.”
Two pairs of footsteps stampeded up the stairs and we heard Liam and Harry shout with worry. Diego turned away from me, walking out of the room. I followed him, trying to stop him. Harry appeared first.
“Is that Liam?” Diego questioned, yet he didn’t wait for my answer before punching Harry’s face. Harry stumbled backwards, clutching his right cheek and fell to the ground.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Liam raged, charging at Diego, throwing a fist at his stomach. I moved out of the way as Liam pounced at Diego and they both went tumbling to the floor, Liam on top. He continuously punched Diego in the face even though I screamed in protest. I just wanted it all to stop.
Ignacia shoved passed me and stepped over Harry, her hair done up into a messy ponytail. Harry groaned before standing up.
“Ignacia, where are you going?” Harry asked with surprise. She didn’t even greet them. Ignacia halted at the top of the stairs and faced Harry.
“Out!”
“You’re such a bitch, Ignacia!” I shouted at her. “Where did you leave Fausto anyway?”
“I told him to stay in his bloody room. I’m not stupid!” At lease she had sense to keep Fausto out of this. With that she rushed down the stairs and out of the door.
“Look, I’ll go after her.” Harry tried to be helpful.
“Who even cares about her?” I mumbled angrily. I wish she’d just get out of all our lives. I wish she never existed. We could all be a happy family without her. No one likes her anyway. Harry didn’t hear me because he was already following her outside.
At that moment, Liam stood up and pulled Diego up. Both their faces were covered in blood and looked rather distorted. My insides melted in pain. That looked painful.
“If you know what’s good for you, you’ll leave!” Liam’s breathing was heavy but he managed a sentence. I knew he was holding back the urge to hit him again.
“I’ll be back, Emma. You can count on that.” Diego’s voice held so much certainty. I was frightened. I was frozen to the spot while Liam followed Diego down the stairs to make sure he left the house.
