Chapter Ten
One week later
“That was so fun,” Bruna cheered, flopping onto the sofa. Her golden blonde hair fell over her face and she blew it away. Her silvery grey eyes fluttered over Harry’s body once again.
In the morning Liam, Harry, Fausto and I picked Bruna up from her house and we went shopping. Bruna’s obsession over a certain member of One Direction changes every few days. When we first heard of One Direction Bruna was into Harry, then a few days later that changed to Niall, followed by Louis, Liam and then Zayn. This routine repeats, going in circles again only with a different order. However, today Bruna decided to cling onto Harry, dragging him to every shop she entered. Fausto remained by my side while Liam and I laughed, following Bruna and Harry around. It was entertaining to watch those two run around the centre. Harry appeared rather scared.
“Yeah it was,” I laughed, sitting next to her. Harry sat on the arm of the sofa, too afraid to sit by Bruna in case he’ll suffer under her embrace. Liam sat beside me, placing his arm around my shoulder. I rested my head on his shoulder.
“I need a wee wee,” Fausto stated running up the stairs into the bathroom. We all chuckled and Bruna commented on how cute he is.
My phone went off a few minutes after and I fished it out of my pocket, glancing at the screen. I raised an eyebrow as the number wasn’t recognised.
“Hello?” I spoke into my phone, my heart rate increasing. I never give my phone number to just anyone. What if this was Diego? What if it was some mass murderer or someone similar who got a hold of my number and is now going to threaten me?
“Hi, we’re calling from Hospital Parque San Antonio.” Out of everyone it could've been, it had never occurred that the hospital would call. I even had the thought that it could be Ignacia because she called three times while we were shopping but I just ignored it. She never wants my help so why care now?
“Yeah?” I answered, not really knowing what to say.
“We have a young girl in one of our rooms. She has been here for almost three hours now and you’re the first we’ve come into contact with.” Her voice was soft and sympathetic through the phone and although I panicked due to her words, her voice weirdly soothed me.
“Err…do you not know who she is?” I questioned.
“No we don’t, she has yet to wake up. She needs a lot of rest though. We can’t seem to get in contact with her parents or the house number that we found on her phone. You were the next on speed dial and we’ve been calling you for a long time using her phone but that didn’t work,” her voice was rushed.
I gasped in shock. The only call I got after picking Bruna up was from Ignacia. Maybe she’s in hospital. I mumbled under my breath, scolding at myself for not picking up her calls.
“Is she alright? What happened?” I spoke fast. This caught the others’ attention too and they looked at me with concern.
“All information will be disclosed if you can verify to be her relative.” I nodded, although realised she couldn’t see me. “Please come as soon as possible.”
“Okay, thank you.” I felt a lump in my throat, guilt taking over. The woman put the phone down and I couldn’t think. My eyes were glassy. Ignacia is in hospital and I ignored the calls and was having fun. What kind of sister am I?
“What happen, babe?” Liam asked finally. Of course, they didn’t understand the conversation I was having with the woman since we spoke in Spanish. Fausto returned from the toilet and flashed us all a cheeky smile.
“I – I think Ignacia’s in hospital,” I stuttered, not knowing how to react. I started to think about that time she put me in hospital a few months ago. Did she care about the condition I was left in?
“What?” Fausto screamed, tears already running down his cheeks.
“What are we going to do?” Liam asked slightly worried while Bruna frowned. She passionately hates Ignacia ever since that day. Bruna and Ignacia used to be quite close though. All my friends were close with her but that all changed ever since she cheated.
“What the hell, Liam? What do you mean what are we going to do? We’re going to the hospital of course!” Harry went mad as he shouted. He was taking this information harder than the rest of us. “Well? What are you waiting for?”
Through Harry’s orders we rushed out of the house and jumped onto the bus that took us directly in front of the hospital. Bruna had taken her leave and decided not to come to the hospital with us. Luckily, the woman that called me was sitting at the reception so she knew why we came. She directed us to the right room and we made our way there.
Fausto ran into the room, tears still streaming down his face. His hair bobbed up and down as he ran. Harry went in after him, worry still planted on his face. I don’t know what the big deal is with Harry. I took a deep breath just outside the room, tightening my grip on Liam’s hand. He gave me a smile of reassurance and we both walked in.
My stomach fluttered and my heart dropped. The all too familiar heart monitor beeped in rhythm, connected to her arm. Her face was pale and a crisp layer of dead skin formed upon her lips. I felt my legs weaken, so I quickly found my way onto a chair beside her bed. Fausto sat on the bed next to her while Harry sat on the edge, holding onto her hand.
What if this is my entire fault? What if I was the reason for all this? I know Ignacia is one of those people dependent on others; she needs someone to love her and she needs to feel wanted. What if she’s here because I didn’t provide her with the support she truly needed even though I saw the signs?
