Two : Prove It

Hermione sat confused on a stool as her best friend Ginny Potter flitted about in the basement kitchen of Grimmauld Place.

While she was doing nothing, the mistress of the house supervised two house elves in setting up the long table for a bunch of people, making sure the ladles are stirring the insides of pots continuously and that Hermione's wine glass is always filled.

When Ginny barged into her office today to collect her early, she thought the dinner would only be between Harry, Ginny and her. The redhead failed to mention that most of the Weasleys would be attending. If it weren't for the fact that Ron was at the South of France honeymooning with his wife Lavender, she would have put her foot down and decided not to go.

Damn, Ronald. How could a relationship so traitorous end up in what she dreamt of the most? If someone asked her months ago where she thought her relationship with Ron will end up, her quick and absolute answer would have to be marriage. And why not? They have survived through the war and have harbored feelings for each other far longer than that.

Lavender just had to worm her way into the picture...

She took a long pull of the wine she had been nursing after Ginny had finished dressing her up into a short, red thing that kept riding up her thighs. The dress exposed her arms and the decent amount of cleavage she has. Ginny had fawned over how beautiful she looked, especially after the vivacious witch forced makeup on her and tamed her wild curls into sexy waves down her back.

Hermione didn't feel beautiful, however. Hermione felt miserable.

Sensing her distress, Ginny filled up her glass once more with an encouraging grin. "Tonight's going to be fun, Hermione," she assured her. "Bill and Fleur are bringing the kids over along with little Teddy. Andromeda isn't feeling well enough to bring him herself. Fred and George and Angelina will be coming too."

Hermione's smile brightened a little. She suppose it would be nice to have lots of company for dinner other than it being with herself, alone in that flat of hers. Maybe Ginny was right. Surrounding herself with people she loved would be relaxing. After the attack on her parents by two masked men, Hermione had been on edge a lot.

She made a mental note to call her parents when she got home. Preferably when she hasn't started to cry yet.

"Thanks for inviting me, by the way," Hermione told Ginny. "It's exactly what I need right now. Everything has been stressful lately; it's great to unwind."

"Any time, 'Mione," Ginny said affectionately. "Though we have to go out much more often. Off-season for the Harpies is incredibly boring that sometimes I wonder if I should have become an Auror like you lot."

And for the first time in days, Hermione laughed. It wasn't that Ginny couldn't handle being an Auror, she is one of the toughest witches Hermione knew. It's because she knew well that she's going to use it as an excuse to spend more time with Harry.

The first guests arrived not long after and Hermione soon found herself trying to balance taking care of two energetic babies. Even Victoire, who was only a few months old, gurgled happily as Teddy amused them with changing his appearance and kept trying to wriggle herself out of her grasp. Bill and Fleur were helping Ginny with a few final arrangements down in the basement while Hermione and Victoire and Teddy played in the renovated drawing room.

Seeing the two, it made her heart ache that she might never get to see kid of her own. Unless some mythical Prince Charming decided to sweep her off her feet, she guessed. Hermione believed it was highly unlikely. Loads of peculiar things existed in the wizarding world, but still, knights in shining armours remained in fairy tales and novels of wishful children.
