Chapter 5

“He’s watching us, you know.” Her bare feet freely made small steps towards me, covering a large portion of the short amount of space between us.  Her strawberry locks twisted over her shoulders.  “Don’t think that if he wasn’t, I wouldn’t end this here and now.”

Sandra’s eyes flickered over me, while mine found hers and remained there.  Her face grew pale and her eyes cold.  I could tell from the raw sincerity in her voice that she meant it.  I questioned why she had such a distaste for me, when I never asked for this.

“He’s always watching.”  She spoke, sounding disgusted. “Always watching just you.  I am suppose to keep an eye on you.  What makes you so damn special?”  Her eyes started tearing up and I couldn’t tell if it was anger or hurt.

Sandra came to an abrupt halt, her head tilting slightly.  “I bet he’s here right now!”  She exclaimed.

“How else would he be watching?”  I asked in monotone.

“He has eyes everywhere, Evelyn, but I bet he sticks by you.  Nothing can happen to his Darling.”  She said the last part to herself, like she had figured something out.  Staring at her feet she paced around. Saying it again and again.

"Darling is safe.

Darling is safe.

Darling?"  This time she was calling to someone.

I surveyed around myself and saw no one.  “Where is he?”  I asked quietly.  Inside, I desperately wanted to know who the man was.  My fingers clutched into my palms at the thought of begging.  I wouldn’t beg, but keeping the anger inside wouldn’t be something I cared about when I saw him.

Keep your anger hidden.  May’s soft voice repeated in my head.  I never could tell if she was thought being angry made me weak, or keeping others in the dark about how none innocent and cruel I could be gave me an advantage.  A deep breath of fresh air flowed into me, but didn’t relieve any of the tension in my sore muscles.

Next to me, Argus growled, the sound growing more threatening the closer Sandra came.

“Your sister has you to come for her?”  Chuckling, I knew the spiel wasn’t over.  “How is a girl like you suppose to do that?  Your the baby of the two of you.”  She snorted.  “She’s long gone, Evelyn.”  I didn’t falter, but on the inside I felt like I was going to throw up just from hearing those simple words.  “You think he’d actually keep her?  No one is going home besides you.”

Before I could stop myself, I took a few strides forward and felt my fingers wrapping lightly around Sandra’s forearm.  Her bones were small and I didn’t care about the coldness that radiated off of her.  It was when she went to pull away that my grip tightened.  My nails dug into her skin as she squirmed, while her displeasure grew, I had run out of patience.  Having a short temper, I never had much to begin with.

When she tried to free herself it only irritated me further.  Sandra attempted to twist around, but before she could I had a hold of her throat.  Her face was a light pink once I tightened my grip and I locked my eyes with hers.

My fingers were tight, the bones locking around her, much harder than I expected. Maybe it was the adrenalin, I wasn't sure.

“I don’t know who you think gave you the right to be such a bitch,”  I spat, “but last I checked, your master wants me to be here.  Considering how often you leave, seems like he doesn't care much for you.”  The words spilled out and I could hardly believe it was me saying them.

The rage boiled through me and while I was enamored with the feeling now, I knew I would feel horrible after it went away.

Sandra’s mouth was agape, white teeth gleaming.  I saw her hand raise and I was prepared to stop her, but before she made any contact with me something had put her on the ground.  I looked at my hands, but it wasn’t me.  Behind us, Argus barked savagely and stayed at my feet, pushing himself in front of me.

Sandra had caught herself but was on her ass in the dirt, her palms holding her up.  Her eyes were focused on something next to her, but I saw nothing there.

I watched her mouth move like it was in slow motion and she coward backwards.  The wind lightly blew through the trees and sent warm air over my skin, but I watched Sandra shivering.

“You saw her!  It wasn’t my fault.  It wasn’t me.”  She was pleading with it. “Master, please?”

She pushed herself backwards, scrambling to get up to get away but she wasn’t fast enough.  Her screams made my legs weak.  She was being dragged.  I wasn’t sure where she was being taken but I could tell it was more than one something pulling her.

 He had been watching.

“Go, Evelyn!  Run!”  Part of me wanted to take her warning, but I was confused why she would warn me if she hated me so much.

I stayed and witnessed her be pulled away.  Her fingers dragged in the soil, pulling up small stones every few feet.  Her watery eyes met mine and she looked like she was expecting me to help her.  When she realized I wasn’t moving, she took the matter into her own hands and began twisting.  Her body reeled in awkward positions, trying to break free from the strong grasps.

She was far away and her screams raged on, but I ignored the buzzing it caused in the air.  I could still feel eyes on me and judging by Argus’s strong stance against me, I knew he could too.  I was too high on the adrenalyn the anger gave me to be afraid.

“Are you here?”  I asked boldly.  The wind blew, as my only answer.

“Show me where you are.”  I was struggling not to yell in frustration.  Warmth snaked its way around my arms and up to my cheeks.  Something soft moved down my jawline and I closed my eyes, taking deep breaths to calm down; but feeling sick from the touch.

Each finger caressed my skin, their breath close to my ear.  My hand stretched out in front of me, cautiously, until it met soft cloth.  Tilting my fingers upwards, my hand slid up my kidnappers chest and a slight rumble came as a result.  He moved closer to me, nearly filling the space between us.  Still my eyes lied to me, telling me there was nothing in front of me but air.

I leaned into him, getting closer than I ever wished to be and let him do the same.  His cheek rested against mine, warm air blowing down my neck.  I let the side of my mouth rest by his ear and felt the hate churning inside my stomach.

“I will be the end of you.”  I whispered, feeling his breath suck in and knowing he didn’t dare let it out.

Ta-Da! Well I hoped you guys thought this was okay. I am pretty excited with where the story is going so far as plot and I am super pumped for the upcoming chapters now that we're into the story. :) Sorry this was short but I will be updating again soon and the next chapter will be a good length :)
