"Afternoon dear. Happy Birthday," Mrs. Johnson greeted me. As she handed me the leash.
"Thank you Mrs. Johnson," I responded. Mrs. Johnson was a kind lady. She was I think 74 years old. Whenever I needed something she would help me out. She was like a mother to me. A friend. My only friend.
I started to walk the other direction. The dogs panting as they ran across the street with their tongues sticking out.
"Aha slow down!" I mentioned as I was trying to catch up. I looked back at Mrs. Johnson as I crossed the street. She was still there on her porch waving goodbye to her dogs and I. I waved back and smiled.
I liked Mrs. Johnson and she liked me. She knew about my jobs (including the strip club). She didn't care because she knows how much I'm going through right now and that I'm trying to make the money.
The dogs started to run faster. And I started to run too.
"This is a good exercise," I said to myself as I was running. I check the time on my watch.
4:02
I run to the corner and take a right; heading back to Mrs. Johnson's.
Damn it. I'm sweating.
I take a quick stop at a store to get a water.
"Here you go boy," I said as I opened the water bottle and put it near the dogs' mouth. Don't worry, I took a sip before the dogs did.
Two more blocks.
I wonder if I will get a cake. Or cupcakes. Or some shots at the club.
I shouldn't be looking forward to this anyway. Nevermind thinking about my birthday. I want this day just to end. I've never looked forward to my birthday since..
Since I've last seen David.
