A/N: so this is a prompt: they bring back an antique mirror from another dimension (basically it's the mirror of erised) so a bit of Supergirl/Harry Potter cross over :))
"we called you in because we have this relic, we're hoping you might know something about it, it looks normal but it's definitely not from a world like ours," Supergirl steps closer to Alex, her eyes lingering at the mirror in front of them before she turns to her sister and answers,
"nope, I don't think I've ever seen anything like this in the planets that we've visited, I'm sorry Alex. where did you even get this?"
"Well," Winn interjects, typing quite fast on the tablet that he's always holding
"remember the portal we were in? the one that brought us to the planet that were harboring humans to be sold as slaves?"
Supergirl nods, remembering it perfectly because it's not everyday she gets exposed to a sun that rids her of her powers.
"we've been.. tinkering with it, we've discovered that it doesn't just zap us to other planets, in fact it can be used to jump from dimension to dimension! but.. there are still bugs in it, it looks like it shifts from dimensions to planets and vice versa but we're working it out, can you imagine the possibilities?!"
the excitement in his voice is evident, his eyes dreamy, like he's still not used to the DEO discovering things like this. he starts babbling about the possible science behind it, derailing the explanation that she's been itching to hear
"well, he's obviously in a trance now" Alex says, turning to her sister and continuing the story behind the random mirror hanging out near the balcony,
"long story short, in our first mission using the portal, it sent us to a normal looking forest, quite earth-like actually, and we dug up that" she sighs as she puts her hands on her hips studying the mirror like her sister,
"but so far we haven't really figured out what it does,"
she didn't really hear half the things that Alex says, which doesn't happen a lot. she just felt like staring at the mirror, like it was pulling her to it. not being able to control her curiosity anymore, she gives in and starts walking towards it,
"uh, Supergirl, we had protective gear on when we were handling the mirror maybe you shouldn't just--"
"oh Alex I'll be fine," her head turned to her sister as she nears the mirror, "it looks harmless enough--" but her words were cut short, her breath hitches in her throat and all she could do was gawk.
"Supergirl!" Alex was full on panic mode, her hand instinctively grabbing on her gun while she runs towards her sister who hasn't moved a muscle since she looked into the mirror, Winn and a few other agents run after her to help,
"Supergirl, what's wrong? are you okay?"
the superhero blinks after what felt like forever when she feels Alex hold her shoulders, "I-I'm sorry, I'm fine, I just.." she fails at stringing together a coherent sentence, she held her sister's hand and shakes her head before she asks,
"do you, do you see what I'm seeing?"
Alex looks at the mirror, throwing all knowledge about safety out the window and immediately look at her sister afterwards with worry and shock in her face, she whispers, "Kara, it's just us in the mirror? what are you talking about?"
her hands tighten on her sister's hand, she's so confused, this might be an effect that the mirror has, maybe a hallucinogenic drug that starts to take effect when someone comes near it, she should really look away but she can't,
"you really aren't seeing this?" she says pointing at the her reflection, her voice starting to get higher, getting a bit infuriated by how her sister and the others are looking at her like she's crazy,
"okay that's it, come on let's get you checked, I told you not to just go near it," this is not Alex Danvers, agent of the DEO talking, it's her sister now. her voice sharp with worry as she gently leads the dazed superhero to the headquarter's hospital wing.
she doesn't put up a fight and let's herself get taken, because maybe the mirror was doing something to her mind, because she could've sworn she saw Lena Luthor with her, (not as Supergirl but as Kara) in the mirror, looking happy carrying a child and mouthing "I love you." to her.
