Chapter Five

Family Meetings

~~

After hours of standing around watching his patent when he finally found himself unable to do much more than make SS comfortable, Owen finally pulled Doctor Green away from the medbay.

The ship had calmed since finding the Illinois the day before, but there was an underlying tension that radiated from the old vessel in their hangar bay. "We won't be scrapping it until Miss Sorenson wakes or we get close enough to the relay station to contact the Academy." Owen said as the meeting he called began.

They all sat in the twelve by fifteen foot area that made up the cafeteria. A small door, where Luke could be seen hurrying around the small space with North trailing slowly behind, led into the kitchen. Mr. Blackbourne had no doubt either of them were listening even as they cooked something up for dinner.

The ship didn't need much restocking from the space-stay they were headed towards, but Kota was already putting together a list of requests and taking stock of the ship for when they landed. So far, he had done the control room and the kitchen. Nathan had put in a request for a new undershirt due to the recent run in with a sharp piece of overhanging metal in one of the upper levels. Luke had asked for new hairbands. Kota had put himself down for a few new books.

When he was finished, Mr. Blackbourne would have to okay all of the items. Sometimes, he vetoed unnecessary purchases, but his Team wasn't in need of funds and they had been anyway long enough to warrant a little play.

But this business with Sang Sorenson was on all of their minds as of late.

"Kota, report. I want to know everything about Sang Sorenson." Mr. Blackbourne caught his best friends eye across the table. Big green eyes, tired and rimmed with dark circles from too many nights working late in the infirmary, winked with just a bit of malice. He hated being taken away from his recluse cave. But Mr. Blackbourne knew that video feeds from the infirmary were pulled up onto the tablet his friend was holding, as were the readings from the equipment she was hooked up to.

If something happened, Doctor Green would know. He didn't have to be by her side all the time.

His first mate gave a start at his words, having been muttering prime numbers under his breath since arriving for the meeting. "Oh," He paused, clearing his throat as he dived into the files he had been searching through for hours by memory. "Sang Sorenson of the Illinois-087. Age sixteen, one hundred and twelve pounds. Blood type O negative. Academy status: Ghost Bird. Reported KIA June twelfth when the search and rescue efforts were called off- they searched for thirteen months but found nothing."
