Chapter one

Five years ago

An eighteen year old Jamie sat in her bed next to her six year old sister, Leah, both wrapped up in one of their grandmothers handmade blankets as they listened to their grandfather tell them the bedtime story Jamie had heard so many times before. He told of a special girl, born an Omega who was destined for greatness. For a child like Leah this was a wondrously new and exciting story, but for Jamie it was just another bedtime story her grandfather had made up. She had long since suspected that her grandfather had made this particular story up to help her cope with the fact that she was an Omega in a family of Alphas. She had never had the heart to tell her that she really didn't mind her Omega status. It didn't make her any less of a person, so why should she feel like she was lower then them all. And she knew that they all loved her greatly.

“The girl gazed up at the moon, only to see that it was as red as blood,” Her grandfather continued. When she was little he had always told her that this was a legend and she might well see come into fruition, as it only happens once every one thousand years, and the time was fast approaching. “She gaped at it in wonderment, not realizing that very soon her entire world was to be spun on its axis for ever. Her mother walked up behind the girl, not knowing that her attention was solely on the blood red moon above their heads. Gently she said, 'My sweet, it's time for bed.' But the little girl didn't respond, she didn't even act as if he had even heard her mothers soft voice, instead just kept on staring at the moon. Her mother realizing that her daughter wasn't going to answer her she gently shook her shoulder. And when all she did was stumble back a step her mother knew that something was very wrong with her young daughter.

“Slowly so as not to startle the girl her mother walked around to face her and bent down in front of her trying and subsequently, failing to gain her daughters attention. She could feel that there was something very wrong and when she looked closely at her daughter she noticed that her eyes had changed colour. They were not her usual green, nor the golden brown of the girls wolf, but a blood red that seemed to glow in the moonlight. And that sight along frightened her to her very core. Grabbing her daughter by the shoulders she began to shake her. 'Sweetheart, what's happened to you?' she demanded, crying out in fear for her little one. Her mate came rushing out of their home looking for any sign of danger and asking her what had happened. However she was far too focused on her daughter to even hear his words.

“Her mate was just about to drag them both inside when he noticed his daughters eyes. Suddenly the girl moved. Her eyes looking directly in front of her, yet not seeing a thing. And she began to sing in a voice devoid of all emotion that it sounded eerie, and as cold as the look in her eyes. 'Blood will rain, and blood will fall. Blood will flow, and blood will crawl. Blood will creep, and blood will seek. Until the end, the end meek. In the month of moon turned red, demons crawl up from the dread. To seek the one who is deemed weak, the one their king will always seek. For he will not be seen, until they find the Omega, his Queen.' And with the end of the song sung the girls eyes turned back to normal, and she collapsed.” their grandfather stopped, and Jamie knew that he was done for the night.

“No,” her sister exclaimed. “No don't stop. What happened next? What happened to the girl? What did her parents do? Tell me!”

From the doorway their grandmother laughed, “Tomorrow, sugar. Grampa needs his rest too ya know.” she smiled lovingly at them all and kissed them on their foreheads.

“Goodnight, my sweets. We'll see ya in the morning then we can have a big breakfast before your parents come to get you.” their grandfather said kissing them on their foreheads.

“Night, my darlings.” their grandmother said.

“Night grandma, night grampa.” they both said, then Jamie got out of the bed and curled up on her sisters, as she knew Leah's bed would be cold and would wake up her six year old sibling.
