Chapter 1: The Family...
Laying in a garden of Moss Roses, McKayla could hear the cheerful melody of two Cardinals trading love songs from the branches of the Oak trees surrounding her. Her fingers tangled with her long brown hair. She could feel the warm rays of the sun bouncing off her tan skin, she could hear the crickets chirping, she could smell the Moss Roses sensational smell. McKayla loved it here, it was the one place she could escape. Sadly she knew she had to return, she knew she could not hide, not forever. McKayla was an outsider, she did not have a Mother to tell her it was going to be okay. She did not need a mother to look after her, no she did not. Instead, McKayla had two dads, each special and unique in there own ways. Daniel and Richard.
Daniel(Dad) was a tall and fair man he had short kind of dirty blonde hair with blue eyes as clear and bright as the sky, as for Richard(Papa) he was a kind of husky man with black hair almost fading into gray he had big brown-beautiful eyes. McKayla also had two brothers, Miles and Michael. She was the youngest, but she did not mind, she was used to it. She loved her family.
McKayla headed home, as she approached the house she saw the car that her Dad drives parked in the driveway.
"Hey bean." McKayla's dad had called her that for years.
"Why are you home so early?" Her Dad usually never got home before 5, But it was 3:15. Avoiding the question.
"Where were you?"
"In the garden."
"Oh, what do you do at the garden? Do you meet someone? A boy?" McKayla rolled her eyes.
"Really? Dad, Really?"
"Well hey, you never know."
"Alrighty then, I'm going up stairs."
"Supper at 7."
Tired, McKayla hurried up the stairs hoping her father wouldn't say more. She had homework but she figured it could wait. She figured she could take a small nap. So she lay'd down on her comfortable queen sized bed and closed her eyes. It didn't take long for her to fall asleep, but she dreamt of a place a place with long green grass, a place with a blue sky with not a cloud in sight, a place where there were animals ran free and not a bird wasn't singing a tune. There was a little house in an open valley where she lived, she opened the door it almost seemed to be slow motion there was a man, not a scary man. But a handsome man. Feeling herself wake up she was desperate for this dream to go on.
"McKayla? Are you awake?"
Blinking, McKayla sat up.
"You ruined my dream!"
"Time for supper."
He looked at her, not looking very pleased but he said nothing and headed back out of her room and down the steps.
Miles and Michael were already at the table waiting Papa was mixing the tortellini with the sauce. Miles was on his phone probably texting his girlfriend. Michael was on his phone as well most likely on FaceBook.
"Get off your phones it's time to eat."
It was times like this when she wished to be in the garden.
