The Change

I groaned as i literally rolled out of bed and onto the floor, dragging the bed sheets with me.

What day is it? Friday, concert day.

I looked outside my window which faced the neighbors and saw the sun barely up. Outside the window behind me, a large field of trees were on display.

Yes, I lived on the edge of a forest. Surprisingly, I never went back there. I don't think it's allowed. My annoying hair was still wet from last night's shower, so no point trying to keep it dry today.

I got dressed and put on eyeliner, and decided to get something to eat. I settled on a box of cereal.

" Raine!!! Surprisingly, there are people at the door for you!!" My dad called. I rolled my eyes and went over.

" What." I stated blankly. I was infront of the door, facing my dad, Mikey and Gerard.

" Oh hey guys." I said, sticking my hand into the box and shoveling a load of frosted flakes in.

" Want some?" I shoved the box at them.

" How can you eat like that?" Gerard scolded, while Mikey shoved in a handful. We turned to him with chipmunk cheeks and crunched loudly.

" You guys are like sixth graders." He scoffed, but eventually joined in.

" So Mikey, you wanna catch a ride with us tonight?" I said as we were heading to school

" Um who's 'us' " Mikey asked, weighing his options

" Just Kat, Roman, Tray, and Luke. You met them yesterday. And I dunno maybe Frank." I shrugged. I could see him tense up at the mention of Frank.

" Uhm, no thanks, i'll meet you there. It seems like a car full."

" Ok, well, if you need a ride, just say so. Gee, are you going?"

" Hell yes." He laughed like it was obvious. " But are you allowed to?"

" No. I have to sneak out of a two story window and cut through a forest to get through."

" Seems practical." Gerard laughed.

" But it's worth it." I added.

" Ok, well I'm going to go find the guys. You coming?"

" You guys go, i've got to go to class early." Gerard left.

Mikey and I headed to the back of the school to go meet everyone. For the first time ever, i noticed something on the trails.

The trails were hidden paths in the back of our school. Past the playing field, a line of trees across the far edge of the field, a trail, more trees, and a bus station.

There was a cluster of trees on the far left side, and what seemed to be another pathway.

I slid under the bleachers to our hidden headquarters. Like mentioned before, nobody ever found us here. That was the best part of it.

" Hey guys." I whispered and Mikey slid in behind me. " You know Mikey."

" What the hell is this place? Ive never seen it before." He asked.

" Exactly. I was walking home freshman year, and I saw a crappy old, fenced-in set of bleachers. Next day, I told them about it, and here we are. Nobody ever finds the bleachers." I sat against the wall.

" Cool." He sat down next to me. I turned to Kat who was ignoring me completely.

" What's up with her?" I whispered to Roman.

" Idk man, last night she was talking about something, and i wasn't listening."

" Kat, you want to come over afterschool to get ready?" I asked. Usually, she'd love that, and squeal, but i got no such reaction.

" I don't want to go anywhere with you." She coldly snapped, got up, and slid out of the bleachers.

 " What?" I called after her, attempting to follow, but Tristan pulled me back.

" No point." He stated, dragging me to the pavement.

" What did I do!!??!!" I nearly punched Mikey but hit the wall behind his head. I hate when people ignore me when I try and talk to them. I don't care if you pretend im invisible in general, but if i fucking try to talk to you, you better reply. But I'm suck a hypocrite and I ignore people too.

" We don't even know." Lucas shrugged.

The stupid bell rang and we slid out of the bleachers.

~~~ Lunch ~~~
I was walking to our usual table when Kat spotted me. She scoffed and put her feet up on the seat next to her.
" Sorry, there's no more room. We have some new members, and not enough space for you." She gave me a big fake smile and I turned to the guys. She honestly couldn't be mad about Mikey and Frank.
" None of you are going to say anything!?!" I rolled my eyes at their lack of defense.
" Well, I sit here, and I don't see anyone else." I pushed Lucas to the side and sat down. Kat scoffed, picked up her stuff and left.
I looked back and noticed her talking to The Bars. Short for Barbies. That's what we called the group of cheerleaders, or popular girls, at our school. They weren't making fun of her! They were talking, laughing.
Then, I noticed differences in Kat's appearance. Her light brown hair now had traces of blonde ; The amount of eyeliner she used was reduced today, and replaced with other makeup ; She wasn't wearing her Clandestine necklace ; And she was definitley wearing perfume today, i could smell it from a mile away.
These little characteristics are common, and there is nothing wrong with them, but when it comes to Kat, it's just not her.
If she dyed her hair, she would've hinted at that forever until someone said something.
Eyeliner was her only choice of makeup! She wore shittons of it, and refused to wear anything else. Now her face is caked with other things.
She's worn her Clandestine necklace every single day since she got it. If she lost it, she'd make us all go on a hunt for it. She purposely left it at home.
Perfume isn't a big deal. But she never wears it. She always just rolls on deodorant and that's good enough. Flowers and girly shit reeked off of her clothing.
The signature hoodie was replace with a skin tight jacket that revealed a tank top. Not the Kat I know at all.
Maybe I'm just seeing things.
" Why is your girlfriend all pissed?" I asked Roman who was silently picking at lint on his sleeve.
" I don't know, she won't talk to me."
" Well, she better not be like that tonight."
" She's not going."
" What!!!??!!" I spat out my drink onto the table.
" The only thing she did say to me, is that she's not going. Didn't tell me why. And I don't care why."
" Wow. She's a fucking bitch." I rolled my eyes. It was perfectly fine to call her that. She was my 'best friend' and we are allowed to call each other names.
" ROMAN!" Kat squealed from across the tables. She flapped one hand around like a walrus and called him over.
" Be right back." He groaned and obeyed.
I could see her clinging onto his shirt, whispering in his ear. The entire time, she was sending me looks, as if they were talking about me. He rolled his eyes and she didn't notice. When Roman was walking back, Kat grabbed his arm and dragged him with her. Struggling out of her grasp, he made it back to the table. Behind him, Kat was utterly pissed, and embarassed infront of her new friends.
