She choked on her sobs as she raced out of the house. This was it. She could never go back. She always knew that it had been her fault. She knew for two years because he never let her forget. He didn't want her to forget. He wanted her to suffer... and she was. Suffering... that's all she had ever been able to feel. Why did it have to happen to her? It was her fault that she... no... she couldn't remind herself.

He did that enough. All he wanted her to think about was... her. She could feel the hot tears building up in her eyes as she thought about his last words to her... "You can run... but you cannot hide. I will kill you for what you've done! I'll make sure you suffer! You had better believe that, Midnight..."

Midnight definitely believed it. She knew he would follow her forever until he had his revenge. It's not like Midnight could control the situation! No... no... but he would come for her. He would kill her if it was the last thing he'd do. That's what scared her most... the fact that he made it his personal mission to rip her throat out.

Why was this life so unfair? What if she was on the run for the rest of her life? Midnight heard her own sobs but they didn't sound like her own. She was the shell of a she-cat she had once known. A happy, carefree cat. That was before it all set in. The fact that he blamed her. Sometimes she blamed herself for what had happened as well... Although when she got to thinking about it... it was just... confusing.

Midnight had tried to lecture herself about blaming herself about what happened. Then, the more she thought... the more her confidence disintegrated about herself being correct. He was probably right. He always said he was right. She believed him. Why wouldn't she believe him? He was always right. Right?

Now, because of herself she had to run away... far... far... far away. The further the better. The further she ran from him the further she'd be from almost certain death. Midnight felt herself growing weaker as her dark thoughts attempted to consume her. She couldn't help it. Nowadays it was all she thought about.

All of her life she had never really thought about having to leave. Why hadn't she? It was obvious that he never wanted anything to do with her! Why couldn't she notice that before? She had been so blind... so idiotic!

Now it was time... time to get far away from her past! Midnight knew that leaving was her only hope at surviving... at having what most would call a normal life. Yes. Normal. That's what she was looking for. A life that promised happiness. A life that promised... no more... running. No more running away from problems. Midnight almost smiled at the thought of a normal life. She longed to run free with those close to her.

Midnight continued to run until her paws were almost completely numb. Then she slowed to a walk. She had to keep moving if she was going to get away from him. He might catch up to her in the night if she stopped. Then, she'd really be dead.

Why couldn't he just accept that things happen? Things happen... terrible... horrible... nightmarish things. Midnight shook those thoughts from her head. She was going to have to try to stop herself from thinking about it so much! All she should know is to never reveal her secret. No... she couldn't tell a single soul about what she had caused to happen. Then, she would be stuck being friendless and completely and utterly lonely for the rest of her life. Midnight once again had to shake away her thoughts.

She decided to focus on whether it was worth it to make friends. Maybe after she recovered from what happened. Then, maybe she would be ready to make some friends. Who knows, maybe there will be some friendly cats living in the forest.

Midnight decided that she wasn't going to let her past hold her down! She was just going to pretend none of it ever happened. She was going to meet others who she could call her friends. She was going to meet cats that wouldn't hurt her. Emotionally or physically. Yes, Midnight, the broken, three year old cat... was going to find a way to have a normal life.

Hey, sorry the prologue was kinda short but I'll be making the chapters a lot longer. In my other books they are just so short! So, I'm going to be trying to make all of my books from here on out a lot longer because you could probably read my other books in no time at all. Anyways you get the point, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy Midnight's Past! Don't forget to vote and leave a comment if you like! :)
