She awoke the next morning to her alarm. She had no idea how long she had slept, but knew it couldn't have been more than three hours. Reaching up to the alarm on her bedside counter, she shuts off the alarm before it woke up her father. The last thing she wanted right now was to speak with him. He's probably still drunk from the night before. That meant more yelling and probably a beating before she left to school.
She got up from the ground exhausted. Her neck didn't feel right from sleeping on the floor. She got dressed trying to be quick. She wanted to just get out. To leave. To be as far away from there as possible. She went to bathroom to do her hair and make-up. In the mirror, she stared into her own eyes. Her eyes, a golden brown stared back at her. The lack of sleep apparent in them. Her deep brown hair flowing long, well past her shoulders, glowed in the sunlight coming from the small window in the corner of the room.
Her hair seemed straight enough she thought, might as well not waste time fixing it. She didn't want to do her make-up either. It would take too long. She just wanted to leave. She got her bag and walked out the door. Thankfully her father didn't wake up to any of the noise she had made.
The bus stop was a short walk away, and all she could think about was the worst possible things happening. The teacher calling her name to answer a question, a surprise test by one of her teachers, or someone seeing the scars and bruises on her arm. Every bad scenario ran through her mind again, and again, until she finally reached the bus stop. The bus would be along shortly, she could see it down the street, but something else was there too. A boy she had never seen before was walking her way. A new kid at school she figured, considering he had a backpack on. Dark blue pants, black shoes and a grey jacket on. He had his hoodie on so she couldn't see his facial features, though she noticed his eyes seemed to... Glow. They were a bright yellow yet when she tried to concentrate on his features... They stopped glowing.
When he was 10 feet away he put his head down, making it harder to make out his face, but she did notice his eyes weren't yellow at all. They were a golden brown, much like hers. She didn't think too much of it. Figured she'd never see him at school anyway. She just got on the bus, found her seat, and enjoyed her journey to school.
