Day Eighteen. Unedited
Remember that feeling you used to feel when you got the present you always wanted, or the feeling you felt when you won I competition? My current emotions mirrored that feeling; I was feeling on top of the world, over the moon, there were simply no words to describe what I was feeling. Sure this was the third time I had been asked out by Finch, but this time it was official and we could share the bliss of happiness that we were feeling with everyone.
I was feeling exceedingly giddy like a child who had eaten too much chocolate on Christmas Day; I was completely oblivious to the stares that I was receiving from all directions of the park, especially from those who had loved the popular girl and the popular boy pairing i.e. my sister and Finch. But I didn’t care, now was the time to let my emotions roam free! I didn’t have to pretend or hide my emotions anymore.
The crowd disinter grated after this, half of whom knew we needed our privacy and left us alone and the other half who had been mildly disappointed by the outcome of the party. Georgie, Jennifer and Rory run up to the two of us with Sophie behind, she was walking and I could clearly tell that a) she didn’t approve of this at all and b) she wasn’t making any effort to hide her lack of enthusiasm.
“Oh my!” Georgie squealed and I let out a yelp as her ear-piercing scream rattled in my brain, “thank goodness for that, it was so obvious that Ivy liked Finch and vice versa, for two incredibly smart people you were both completely clueless,” she announced shaking her head sadly at the two of us.
“Gosh, Georgie he only just asked her out it’s not that big of a deal,” Sophie said inspecting her nails and refusing to look directly at the two of us.
“But-,” Georgie said in an irritable tone, “even you wanted them to get together!” She whined sounding like a kid who hadn’t received the present they wanted for Christmas.
“That’s both I got wiser, and learnt a few things of my own,” Sophie said flashing a quick glare towards Finch in her peripheral vision when she thought no-one was looking, you didn’t have to be a genius to work out that the sentence was indicated towards him. “Come on Gee,” she said looping her own arm with Georgie’s and pulling her away against her will might I add.
“But Rory and I-,” She began before stopping in mid-sentence.
“Gosh Georgie Rory is all you ever talk about these days,” Sophie complained loudly, “it’s always ‘Rory this’ and ‘Rory that,’” She said her voice climbing an octave higher, sounding somewhat irritable at this sudden revelation. She stomped off after finally getting her point across, and always she was particularly dramatic in her exit like any drama-queen or actress in the making would be.
Georgie ran after her, and Rory followed Georgie, and Jennifer just randomly disappeared saying that she had some studying to do, which was a pretty plausible excuse in my book, soon it was just Finch and I once more, I had chosen to ignore what Sophie said about ‘learning a few things on my own’ although I knew that it would come back to bite me in the long run.
“I’ve got to go…” Finch said darting a glance at his watch, I noted the time it was ten to eight in the evening, he didn’t bother making an excuse he just left without any further explanation. What he had just done meant that we had made great progress in our relationship, but in more ways than one it was almost like we hadn’t made any progress at all, we were back to square one once more.
Is it possible to feel so happy and popular one moment and then feel lonely the next? Well if it is possible that happens a lot, actually it never stops happening really, I went home with mum and dad, no doubt Sophie would already be there waiting for us (either that or she had decided to stay at a friend’s house). And soon enough things could slowly start to return back to normal, although I’m not entirely sure what normal is anymore.
