Scarlett was pulled from her wonderful memory when a doctor entered the room. He walked over to Leo and checked all his machines. Writing down the answers on his clip board, the doctor had a frown on his face as he compared the results and his eyebrows crinkled together. He walked over to Scarlett and he looked down at the innocent, tired and fragile girl with guilt in his eyes. Scarlett's stomach twisted into knots when the doctor looked at her. She knew this was a bad sign and she didn't want to know what was coming next. The doctors face said it all, something was defiantly up.
"Tell me straight doc" she murmured. The doctor sighed before he answered "He's slipping further away and we aren't sure how much longer he will last." "We can help you any way that you want you just let us know if there's anything you need" the doctor explained. She looked up at the doctor "no its fine I'm going to pray for a miracle, I'm going to keep on praying and hope I'm answered" she told him. He nodded his head and then turned around to leave the girl alone with her thoughts. For weeks now she had been sitting there and praying for a miracle that's all she could do, there was nothing else to do.
She felt totally and utterly useless. The love of her life sat there slipping further and further away from her grasp and there was absolutely nothing she could do. No cure, no kiss and he would wake up life wasn't a fairy-tale. Scarlett knew fair-tales didn't happen in real life. Real life was painful and there wasn't always a happy ending. In fairy-tales they married and lived happily ever after but in real life there were bumps and twists. Yet Scarlett still wished for a happy ending, she wished to ride off into the sunset and enjoy the rest of her life peacefully with Leo. She wished Leo would wake up and kiss her but that wasn't going to happen. He was still out of it and he was still under. She wanted to kiss him and for him to wake up just like in sleeping beauty but life didn't work like that.
All she could think was Why? Her heart shattered a little more at the thought that she might never see Leo awake again. It broke her to know she might never get too look into Leo's eyes again, she might never get lost in his gaze. She would never see his smile, the smile that made everything all better. The one that always brightened up her day. The one that filled her with joy and assured her that everything was going to be ok. She would never have his arms wrapped around her again and she would never feel his warmth. She would never see the glow in his cheeks when he blushed and the way his whole face lit up at certain moments. The way he assured her that everything was going to be ok.
Nothing was ok though. Her heart was heavy and filled with all the mistakes she made. She kept thinking about all the things she could have done differently with Leo. She thought that if she had done things differently then Leo might be ok. Every mistake she made kept re-playing in her head over and over again. She felt upset that there were so many mistakes, there were so many wrongs that she wanted to put right. She wanted to make everything better but she couldn't. She didn't have a time machine, there was no going back in time. If she could go back then she could have stopped Leo and she could have saved him, she would have done everything she could to save him.
She was hurting because she thought this was all her fault and she couldn't help but blame herself. Maybe she had done something bad and was being punished for it or maybe Leo had done something bad. Scarlett couldn't picture Leo doing anything bad, everyone saw Leo as a thug because he had tattoo and long hair but he was so kind and caring. The only time he was bad was when he was standing up for Scarlett. She knew he was just a big teddy bear and that he wouldn't hurt anyone intentionally, so this wasn't his fault. So maybe it was her fault and she was being punished for something she had done in the past but Scarlett knew that if Leo was awake he would tell her off for thinking it was her fault.
Scarlett sat there tracing Leo's tattoos as she remembered the first date.
