Sasuke's POV
I took a seat by the window and sighed quietly to myself, glancing over at the group of annoying girls who constantly obsess over me. I put my hand under my chin and watch with exasperation as the two head girls, Sakura and Ino, fight over the seat next to me. Can they make their crush any more obvious?
Thankfully, Iruka-sensei walked in just as Ino shoved Sakura down and made them both sit in the front, so I had a seat all to myself.
That is, until Shikamaru decides to place his lazy ass right next to me.
"Hey, Choji, you know Naruto?" he asked the chubby kid sitting in front of him.
"Yeah, she's cool. What about her?" he responded.
"She's joining our class today," Shikamaru whispered.
"No way! But what about her private lessons?"
"Teach gave up on her," he said with a chuckle. "Won't this be great?"
"Hell yeah," Choji whispered. "It's gonna be awesome."
Choji turned around to face the teacher once more and I rolled my eyes.
Great, I thought to myself. Just what I need, another dumb-ass fangirl to get in my way of training.
Just as I think this, Iruka-sensei gets up from his desk and starts class. "Today, we are getting a new student. Her name is Uzumaki Naruto and she has just finished up some private lessons with a ninja from a different village. She will be joining us with the same knowledge that you kids have, so don't let her intimidate you, but still treat her with respect.
"Imagine your first day of the Academy, only everyone at the school knows each other already. That's basically what she's going through right now. So be nice."
Some of the fangirls all looked at each other with glares as if they had just discovered fresh meat and the boys rubbed their hands together as if they were waiting to tackle her. It disgusted me.
"Shikamaru, move by Choji real quick before Sensei notices."
The voice came to me as a surprise. That was my voice. Why did I say that?
Apparently, Shikamaru was thinking the same thing, because he looked at me as if I was crazy.
For some reason, I felt the strong urge for him to move, as if my life depended on it if he didn't. "Just do it."
Shooting me one last glance of confusion, Shikamaru gets up quickly and takes the only other empty seat beside Choji.
Just as he did, Iruka-sensei came back into the classroom and I scold myself mentally for not noticing him leaving in the first place.
Behind him, a girl about three-fourths his height walks in confidently with a huge smile on her face. Her blonde hair was in two pigtails that for some reason made me smile lightly. She wore a boyish, bright orange jumpsuit that just screamed "Notice me!" and her tan face had cute little whisker-like scars on her cheeks.
I mentally double-taked. Cute? I meant cool. Totally meant cool.
"Introduce yourself," Iruka-sensei said, patting her lightly on the back.
"My name is Uzumaki Naruto and I am the future Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village! Believe it!" she screamed enthusiastically.
I rolled my eyes. Yeah, I don't think I even meant cool.
"Alright, well," Iruka-sensei said, looking around the room, "there's an open seat by Sasuke right up there. Sasuke, raise your hand."
I mentally face palmed. Why did I have to make Shikamaru move? I'm such idiot.
Reluctantly, I raise my hand slightly and her face changes from one of searching to recognition. She trudges up the stairs of the classroom and sits down with dramatic huff.
She turns around as Iruka-sensei starts the lesson and offers me a bright smile. I just shoot her a small side glance and roll my eyes.
"My name's Naruto! What about you?" she asks.
I just keep looking at her, contemplating whether or not I should tell her. "Uchiha. Uchiha Sasuke," I give in.
Why am I being so nice to her? She's obviously stupid since her teacher gave up on her, and she obviously isn't going to leave me alone if we become friends, I think. Not that we will become friends or anything, anyways.
She smiles even wider. "Cool! I like that name!" she says as she turns back around to face the teacher.
And with that, she didn't say another word to me for the rest of the day. There were times when she would talk and I would turn, thinking she was speaking to me, only to figure out that she was joking around with Shikamaru and Choji. How does she know them, anyways? I thought she was new.
I decided to ask her sometime if I ever got the chance. Not that I cared or anything.
