Marco's POV:
When Toby had called to say that a storm was near Ruggles, I'd been ready with my board 5 minutes later. And it had worked great right up until my wipe-out.
I'd sat in the hospital and accepted that I'd hit the wall in all the ways.
I had to see Maggie.
Maggie's POV:
The rabbit in my chest was doing flips as I watched the hallway where passengers exited security.
I'd never been to the airport before. I'd been so damn nervous that I ended up getting there over an hour early. The lady standing by the American Airlines desk explained all the rules to me and then showed me where to go so I could see Marco as soon as he came out.
He'd texted when he landed but that had been 30 minutes ago.
Finally I saw him. He had a Yankees hat pulled low and he was looking at his phone. He was almost on top of me before I got his attention.
I wanted to jump in his arms but...sling. So I just went up on tippy-toes and kissed him.
His free arm went around my waist and he kissed me back, hard.
"You got your ID?"
I nodded.
"Come on," he tugged my hand and took me to the other line and handed over a piece of paper. The security dude waved us through.
"What's going on?"
"We're going to the tiny house for a few days."
"What? How?"
"Fly to Pittsburgh, rent a cheap car. It's maybe a 90-minute drive if 70 is clear."
"But Marco! We can't just..."
"Can't we?"
"This is crazy. How much money..."
"I'm meeting with BestTek about this community build so most of it is expensed."
"Work is paying for all this?" We were queued up in a long line of travelers.
"Not all. You never flown before so I needed to make the layover here. Maggie? Don't worry about the money."
I shook my head.
"Princess, we need this."
There was something in his voice. I surrendered.
Marco had me go through my backpack and make sure I didn't have anything that security didn't like. I had to throw out my water bottle and a thing of moisturizer. I held up my sandy lifeguard swimsuit unsure what they would think.
Marco just laughed. He told me stories of things inspectors found - like buzzing dildos and live geckos and entire casseroles. Before I knew it, we were at the gate.
"You can do this," he urged.
I was shaking.
I took his hand and we boarded.
