Mama. Out.
***Chapter 1
Ring! Ring!
I woke up with a groan and turned off my alarm. Today was Monday. Hallelujah. Psyche.
"Victoria Andrea Stevens, get down here this instant or you'll be late to school!" Mom yelled.
"School is for the weak!" I retorted, pulling the covers over my head and rolling my eyes in annoyance.
After ten minutes had passed and I still hadn't hauled ass out of bed, my mom burst into the room.
"Did you not hear me young lady? I told you to get your ass out of bed! Now!" she demanded.
"No," I replied stubbornly, pushing back the covers only to childishly stick my tongue out at her.
"That's it!" she claimed with finality. The next thing I knew my mom was pulling off my covers and literally dragging me out of bed.
I shrieked in mock terror and begged her to leave me alone. "Mom! I'm not a rag doll, I'm a human being!"
"Well human beings who are seventeen years old should not be acting like they're five!" she retorted, glaring at me with her blue orbs.
I gasped in mock shock and stood up straight. "Well human beings that are mothers shouldn't be treating their daughters abusively!"
Obviously too tired to come up with a witty comeback, my mother pushed her brunette hair out of her eyes and looked at me in hope that I'd do what I was told.
Feeling kind of bad, I did as I was told and went to get dressed.
"Thank you,"my mom said in relief, shutting the door behind her. Wow, I really needed to stop being such a pain in the ass. But it wasn't like my mom wasn't one either.
I decided on wearing jeans and a gray shirt with my favorite pair of gray converse. I was once a huge fan of fashion, but times have changed.
"Hey Mom," I said as I came into the kitchen, deciding to forget about what happened this morning and lighten up the mood.
"Hi Tori," my mom said, obviously deciding to forget about it too.
"Um... How are you?" I asked awkwardly. I grabbed some Cinnamon Toast Crunch and poured it in
a bowl with milk."Good, now that you've finally listened," my mom replied, taking a sip from her coffee and looking up at me. There was an awkward moment of silence as I ate my cereal across from her and she continued to sip her coffee and eat her toast.
"Well, I don't want to be late to school. Bye Mom," I called back to her, giving her a lame wave and grabbing my hoodie before shutting the door behind me.
Awkward. I know. My mom and I would always either be awkwardly trying to make conversation or fighting. At least that's how it's always been between us before my dad left us. I was more close to him.
I was even more close with Tyler, my best friend that had moved away when I was twelve. I know our relationship was something special. If I saw his face I'd recognize him immediately.
