"Okay class. Take out your sketch books and pencils, then draw me anything you'd like, I want to see how creative you can be." The teacher instructed before going to sit at her desk. Slowly to room filled with chatter.

I lifted up my bag and pulled out my sketch pad, I dug around trying to find a pencil with no such luck. I glanced up then set my gaze on the person in front of me. He had already begun drawing, he seemed to have tuned everyone out already. I looked at the other seats at the table only to see them all vacant.

I nervously turned my attention back to the boy sitting in front of me. I decided to stall the conversation as I flipped to a clean page in the halfway filled book. I tapped my hands softly on the book before I spoke.

"Um. Excuse me?" I tried to get his attention, it seemed to work as he looked up. He seemed pretty surprised I was talking to him. "Do you have an extra pencil by chance?" I asked awkwardly. He leaned over then sat back up and produced a pencil. He handed it over to me and I gratefully took it. "Thanks." I offered him a smile. He. Gave me a very small smile in return. It was barley there at all. He looked back down and continued drawing.

I toon my attention away from him and began to draw something of my own. I wasn't really paying attention to what it was, just letting the pencil flow over the paper.

---

"Can everyone turn it their drawing on the way out?" The teacher asked and immediately a pile began to form in her hands.

"Lila? Can I please speak to you for a second?" The teacher asked while the class filed out. I nodded over to her. I slid the pencil back over to it's rightful owner.

"Thanks again." I said to him. He nodded then walked out of the room. I put my stuff away as Mrs. Bradley came over to talk to me.

"So, Lila. How was your first day of school?" She asked, making small conversation. I nodded slowly and made a 'thinking' face.

"It was okay I guess." I informed her while zipping up my backpack.

"Well that's good. Okay so I wanted to talk to you about your drawing from yesterday." She said pulling out my drawing from yesterday ad setting it down between us. Yesterday's assignment was to draw a common house pet. I drew a cat. "This is one of the best drawings i've seen all year. You're very talented." She complimented.

"Thank you." I accepted the compliment shyly.

"Okay, So now onto what I was going to ask you." She paused, "every year me and two of my students are invited to the New York City Art Show up in New York City, New York." She began, "each student gets to showcase an art piece, and I think one of the two students should be you." She proposed. A wide smile broke out across my face.

"Really?" I asked. She nodded.

"Of course. You have a gift, Lila." She said. I smiled.

"Thank you so much."

"You're very welcome." She smiled and stood up. I'll see you tomorrow Lila." She said. I nodded and handed her today's assignment. She smiled down at it then gave me one last look before going over to her desk. I stood up and left the class.

After hearing her offer I didn't think anyone or anything could ruin my day, turns out I spoke to soon.

"Hey cutie," the obnoxious voice greeted as he began walking next to me.

"Speak of the devil and he shall appear..." I trailed off not sparing him a glance. He turned to face me with a smirk on his face.

"You were thinking about me?" He asked. I shook my head and finally looked at him.

"No it just seemed fitting." I made a quick turn hoping to lose him in the crowd, sadly that was not the outcome.

"So. Will you take me up on the lunch offer. My friends really want to meet you."

"No thanks. I'd rather sit alone." I brushed off his offer and entered the cafeteria.

"Come on..." He pressed. I sighed and came to a fast stop.

"Fine. If I sit with you today will you please leave me alone?" I asked pleadingly. He nodded with a joy filled smile on his face. He motioned me over to the table and I slowly followed after him.

"Hey guys." Chris greeted his friends. They all greeted him back but grew silent as they noticed me. "This is Lila." He introduced me. Then he introduced me to everyone at the table. I didn't pay much attention, it's not like I will be talking to them ever again. I sat down at the far end of the table.

They tried to include me in conversation but I only answered their questions with one worded answers, praying for the time to speed up so that I could leave.

All these people talked about was what happened at the latest party, how drunk and wasted they got, and who they slept with. None of their conversations interested me. I'm not the type of person to break rules, mostly because I have a super guilty conscience.

When the bell rang I was the first one up and the first one out of the cafeteria. It's like I couldn't move fast enough.

I avoided Chris and his friends for the rest of the day, I was pretty successful.

I grew bored quickly when I got home, I finished up my homework and made myself dinner before going to bed. Tomorrow should be a better day if Chris keeps his word and doesn't interact with me ever again.
