I STARED the newcomer down, resisting the urge to laugh her right in her iridescent face. Instead, I decided to just insult her.

"Sweetie, we're in the middle of a fight here. Don't make me laugh." My eyes narrowed at her, yet I was still on high alert, knowing Gray could pounce any moment.

"You're not welcome on my streets, Nightspark." She spoke calmly, "Either you get out of town, or you can stay here. In cuffs." She grinned, twirling her staff in her hand. I almost scoffed at her overconfidence, but just shook my head, clenching my fists. I turned back to face Gray, cocking my head.

"Ready to finish this?" I asked him, and he bared his teeth at me.

"Been ready for a long time." He responded, and pounced for me. In that moment, that god-forsaken wall appeared between us once again. It shimmered and vibrated slightly when Gray slammed into it, falling on his behind.

I couldn't help it, but I snickered.

"Listen to me!" The girl, apparently called Mirage, exclaimed, "You're going to surrender, or I'm going to make you. There's no use in prolonging the inevitable."

"Oh, bugger off." I flicked a finger in her direction, and a spark shot out, hitting her in the chest. She was flung back, landing among a heap of outdoor seating chairs. The wall shimmered, then disappeared. I was on my way to launch Gray halfway into the afterlife when she floated up from the ground, shining even more brightly. To my brief joy, she appeared to have decided not to talk my ear off about my wrongdoings. Instead, she launched a ball of shining white my way, one I ducked away from to avoid.

Rolling on the ground, I got to my feet again with a grin. Cupping my hand around my mouth, I prepared to shout something that would make her properly shake with anger, when the ball bounced back. It collided with my back, and with a painful grunt I crumpled to the ground as I felt my skin blistering.

She descended, feet landing on the ground as her eyes glowed vividly. They weren't neon blue, like mine, but empty pools of light. As if two suns had replaced her eyeballs, and I had to shield my eyes to keep them from watering and stinging.

"Surrender." She said again, and I managed to shake my head, getting to my feet. It was with some effort that I opened my eyes, catching sight of her approaching figure. I launched another projectile her way, one she had the time to avoid. Only I followed, knocking into her like a rampaging bull. She collided hard with the ground as we both grappled for leverage of her staff, the one that seemed to supply her with power.

She pulled one direction, I pulled another. It was strangely like two kindergarteners fighting over the last shovel. And then another kindergartener joined, one named Gray. It was kind of hard to fight two enemies at the same time.

Gray barrelled into me from the side, and I grunted when his power burnt a hole straight through the side of my shoulder. Mirage got up a few metres away, and her eyes were directed toward the rooftops, searching for something. Gray straddled my waist, pulling his arm back and clenching his fist as he prepared to drive it through my skull, but a brilliant whip of light held his arm back. Mirage shook her head, nearing us. I glared at them both, my arms pinned to my sides as Gray sat atop me.
