"How dare you hit her!" Jess screamed at Gabe. Jason quickly ran up and grabbed Gabe's arms to hold them behind his back.
As I sit on the floor holding my face where Gabe had slapped me, tears streaming down my face. Jess comes over to check if I'm alright.
"Max? Max, are you okay?" I looked up at her green eyes and they have tears in them.
"I'm fine, I promise. Go deal with that asshole."
"Jess, Max, sorry to interrupt but I should call my dad. He's working today and it'll be easy to get dumbass here to the station."
Jason's dad was in the military a few years before Jason was born and is currently working at the police station. Jason never really called his dad while he was working unless it was important. Jason is a friend of Jess, he also considered himself a friend to me, I guess he kinda is. I've know him as long as I've known Jess for and that's years we're talking about, there wasn't much I hated about him but not much I liked.
"That's a good idea because if this sorry excuse of a man doesn't leave in handcuffs, I'll be arrested for vehicular man slaughter." Jess looked back at me, "Max, we'll talk later, as soon as we get him out."
I nodded my head knowing this was going to be a long conversation.
----------------
Jason left with Gabe throwing himself around trying to break out of the arm lock Jason has him in. Jess and I are now sitting on her bed in silence, I'm afraid that if I speak I'll say something stupid.
Jess stands up and starts to pack boxes again, "In all honesty, I'm not surprised." She laughs a little, "I remember when we were in middle school gym class you would look at one girl, what was her name? Lily?" She turns and looks and me, "No, it was Madeline." I say, correcting her. "Yaa, Maddy. Thinking back, I really don't blame you, she was drop dead gorgeous."
As we start to talk about things that were painly obvious of me liking girls, we hear yelling coming from down stairs, sounded like her mom. She quickly looked back at me, "We'll talk more later," she dropped her lava lamp and ran to the door and I was close behind.
Thankfully her lava lamp didn't break but Jess and I couldn't care less, we ran out of her room so fast we almost fell going down the stairs. We get to the last step and see Jess' mom's slim body standing at the door where Gabe and Jason were standing, her arms were folded in a scolding way and she was very irritated.
"How dare you enter my home and give me such attitude!" Mrs. Bradford yells at Gabe.
"Uh..mom", Jess speaks and looks questionable at her mom, "Are you okay?" Mrs. Bradford looked at us and smiled, "Oh, hi girls. Sorry if I scared you two, it's just this asshole needs to leave but Jason won't take him outside" she giving both of them a glare.
"I'm sorry ma'am but my dad isn't here yet, there's a lot going on at the station."
"Why is God's name do we need a police officer?" Jess' mom looks at all of us but we say nothing until Jess speaks up.
