CHAPTER ELEVEN

In friendship, there are somethings that you don't ask. With Aphrodite, if I mention anything about homework then she will go on a tangent that it's not her fault that she's failing A.P Biology, even when all I wanted was the answer to number fourteen on the worksheet.

In Noah's case, the Golden Gate Bridge is out of the question. I only wondered why he went there everyday after school at exactly five o'clock. Whenever I ask him, all he gives is a short reply not to worry about it. Eventually I gave up and let the topic get lost in the wind.

Since Noah is a senior while I'm a junior, we don't share any classes together. Aphrodite and I share two classes together, one of them being A.P Bio. Andrew is in that class too but I try to ignore him.

With the semester coming to a close, it's time to get a new science partner. I'm pretty excited considering that there's a chance I could be partnered up with Aphrodite. Mr. Moore took out his list and started repeating the seating arrangements. As the list of people who didn't get called yet starts to become smaller, my excitement becomes greater.

"Aphrodite and John."

My face fell as Didi got up and moved to the far left of the classroom. She looks disappointed as well but it quickly disappeared as she sits next to John. Eventually there's only two people who hasn't been called yet and I grimace as I realize who my new partner is going to be.

With a sense of relief that he can finally start the lesson, Mr. Moore calls off the last two names.

"Kate and Andrew."

I hear a loud groan from behind me and I turn around to see Andrew begrudgingly picking up his textbooks and sitting in the seat besides me.

"Yes, these seats will be for the rest of the year. No, you can not change seats. No, I do not care if you don't like each other."

Mr. Moore picks up a whiteboard marker and starts talking about the role of different organs of the body. Noticing the angry stare that I'm getting from the boy besides me, I turn my gaze over to him.

"Do I have something on my face?' I deadpan. Usually I won't be so confident in my response, but for some reason, I felt like he couldn't hurt me anymore.

"I know what you're doing." He says.

"Writing down the homework?" I reply. Okay, I really had to stop with these responses if I don't want to get a blackeye later.

"You think that just because you're hanging around with Noah that all your problems will go away."

"Well, I mean, you're not bothering me anymore so I guess all my problems did go away." I chuckle lightly which only caused Andrew's eyes to glow darker in annoyance.

"He's going to leave when things get tough. He always does."

My mouth opened a little wider in confusion, not knowing what to say. "And how do you know that?" I challenge.

Andrew shrugs and looks at his pencil. "Noah did it once. He'll do it again. A piece of advice for a stupid girl like you."

Right then the bell rings, and all the students rushes out to go to their next period. I absentmindedly stand up and start packing up my books, thinking over Andrew's previous statement.

He pushes past me, causing me to stumble backwards slightly. Putting my bag on my back, I catch up to Aphrodite who's waiting besides the door.

"Everything alright?" She asks.

I look at her and with the largest smile I could muster, I say, "Everything is perfect."

Not noticing the lie in my answer, we keep walking until we have to go in seperate directions. Telling her goodbye, I walk to my next class.

Maybe Andrew has some secret sorrows that I didn't know about too.
