When I walked through the doorway of the detention room, it seemed as if I were on a different planet. By the look on every ones face, you could tell they knew this was my first time I have ever gotten detention. This was the place for the Rebels, or in other words the outcast. Almost everyone in there had colorful streaks in their hair, all except one.The quiet girl was sitting far in the corner. She was someone you wouldn't expect to ever get sent to detention: a popular.
Naomi was suddenly by my side, as she pulled on a smile from a glance of one of the guys. He had brown hair, with the color of blood red streaking his bangs. His mischievous smile proved he was nothing but trouble.
"Sup' Naomi, who's the blondie?" He said, gesturing a finger in my direction.
"This is Paige! And Chase, she is not a Priss." Naomi replied. Everyone applauded, which kind of seemed strange to me. Figuring a "Priss" is what they called the populars the preps and the average, I went along with it, and presented my best fake smile.
"Why does Paige Elliot always get in my way! She is the girl who got accused of obsessing over Jordan Hancock! Are you sure we can trust her, she might be a wanna be!" A girl with her whole hair dyed blue, interrupted. Her name was Hailey Gerald.
Hailey Gerald didn't only hate me, she had good reasoning's behind it too. It all started in the first grade, when Hailey was the new girl. The Category Codes weren't even being thought of at the time, and if they were it was least likely anyone would follow or understand them. It was still a grade you could become friends with anyone, and act as if you've known them forever, when it has really only been ten minutes. I recognize the time clearly, even to this day.
Hailey had no friends, and her hair was her natural bronze color then. Mackenzie Harris was showered with friends, and still possessed a rotten attitude to those who weren't. Well, Hailey didn't know this at the time, and took the chance to sit by her at lunch. I sat across from them, because even in the lowest of grades I was friendless, and that was the only seat left that wasn't saved.
"Eww, why are you sitting by me!" Mackenzie screeched, as if we were just objects with no feelings.
"Want to be friends?" Hailey asked, with sweet innocence only six year old's had.
All except the six year old Mackenzie, who was a mean girl from the start. "No, I don't like you. Why are losers choosing to me to be their friend?"
Hailey just sat silent in response. And my next move started her fury of hatred towards me. Mackenzie's friends were still in the lunch line, so she had no choice but to use me as her puppet. She kicked me in the leg, and whispered, "Pour your milk on her."
I gave her a lost facial expression, since I had no sense in being mean, especially in the first grade. So I shook my head.
Mackenzie kicked me harder. "Do it if you want to be cool!" She whisper yelled. Her repitative kicking went on forever, until I got up and dumped my milk carton all over Hailey Gerald's head. She screamed, and ran out of the lunchroom crying. And I was immediately sent to the principals office. All Mackenzie did was laugh. She killed two birds with one stone.
I felt horrible for my action, but I wasn't the best at making decisions under pressure. I regretted doing that to Hailey, and I always wanted to explain why I did it. But I never said anything, all I did was steer clear of her. With my luck, I couldn't. After that year, we were always coincidentally put in to the same home room, through out elementary school, and even this year.
I kept it my deed not to bother Hailey again, but that all changed when we were in fifth grade. Now fifth grade was the year when webkinz were the bomb. But also when the preps got together, and decided to make the Category Codes. They kept it a secret until they made a surprise attack for sixth grade. Hailey had just a few friends, and I wasn't friendly enough to have any, I guess.
